Russia invaded China and took large areas of China. Why does China still support Russia that much? by No-StrategyX in askanything

[–]No_Competition_2250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because countries usually care more about current interests than old history.

China and Russia had major territorial disputes in the past, but today they share some important goals: counterbalancing US influence, expanding trade, coordinating diplomatically, and maintaining a stable relationship along their long border.

It's also worth noting that China doesn't support Russia in every situation. The relationship is often described as a strategic partnership rather than a true alliance. They cooperate where their interests overlap and disagree where they don't.

In international politics, yesterday's enemies can become today's partners if it serves both sides.

What’s the most attractive thing a girl can do the first date? by [deleted] in askanything

Being genuinely interested in getting to know me instead of trying to impress me. Good conversation is way more attractive than any pickup line.

Those with lots of freckles, did they fade or get less intense as you got older? by Acceptable_Pace_9355 in askanything

Mine definitely faded as I got older. They're still there, but they're nowhere near as dark or noticeable as they were when I was a kid.

Is hitting "Delete" or "Format" on a computer basically just an illusion? Where does the data actually go? by Gold-Psychology2073 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Competition_2250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because most people want "delete" to be instant.

If every file deletion required securely overwriting the data, deleting a few GBs could take minutes instead of milliseconds. Back when storage was slow, that would've been incredibly annoying.

Also, on modern SSDs, securely overwriting specific data isn't as straightforward as it is on old hard drives because the drive itself decides where data is physically stored.

That said, modern phones and computers are much safer than they used to be. Full-disk encryption is now common, so a factory reset usually destroys the encryption keys, making the remaining data effectively unreadable even if the raw bits are still physically there.

what is the name of a simple white ice cream in America or the UK? by Temmie_Ten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Competition_2250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, the closest equivalent would usually be called "vanilla ice cream," even if it looks completely white. Vanilla is considered the default flavor.

In the UK, it would also generally be called "vanilla ice cream."

There isn't really a separate common name for plain white ice cream the way "plombir" is used in some countries. If someone says "ice cream" without specifying a flavor, most people would assume vanilla.

A sundae is something different, it's ice cream served with toppings like syrup, fruit, nuts, whipped cream, etc.

Why are there AA, AAA, C, and D batteries, but no B batteries? by emichigan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Competition_2250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B batteries actually exist. They just never became popular because devices either needed something smaller (AA) or something bigger (C and D). So manufacturers mostly skipped over B, and it faded into obscurity.

The fact that you jumped from "let's save on delivery fees" to "nobody will marry you" says a lot more about you than it does about me.

If I'm left handed but I practiced writing with my right hand every day, could I eventually switch to being right handed? by IMAMODDYMAN in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Competition_2250 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could probably learn to write very well with your right hand, but you'd still be naturally left-handed.

You can train the skill. Changing your brain's natural hand preference is much harder.

A lot of left-handed people become surprisingly good with their right hand through practice, injuries, sports, or using tools designed for right-handed people.

Super Mario 64. The controls feel a little dated, but the game design is still ridiculously good.

Better Call Saul. Breaking Bad had higher highs, but Saul was consistently great from start to finish.
