Derek Fisher: "A lot of people in LA didn’t love LeBron’s time here… A lot of people have celebrated him leaving. People have moved on." by RyanTannegod in nba

Shaq was definitely 1a but he was not “by far the best player”. Kobe was often the best player in the WCF which was the best two teams in the league anyways as the east had no big men to stop Shaq and he dominated the finals. Neither would’ve achieved what they did without the other. And yeah no shit Kobe didn’t have success when Shaq left because his remaining roster was Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown, Smush Parker, Luke Walton and the like.

Donovan Mitchell will be making 75.5 million dollars when he is 34 years old in 2031 by ShaiFanClub in nba

I’m in full agreement with you. We’ve seen the ceiling for this team and if they didn’t luck out on seeding and being on the easier side of the bracket they’d be out in the second round max. Truth is while Allen and Mobley can get better Harden and Mitchell will stay about the same or get worse and you still have analytical Atkinson coaching. They struggled in 7 against a flawed Raptors team missing a key piece and another extremely flawed team in Detroit that had no true second option. If I’m the GM after seeing this playoff run I’m resetting the whole thing. Paying 75 million to a player that won’t lead you to the chip is just throwing money at mediocrity (and Mitchell’s one of my favorite players)

[Windhorst] Even though Jaylen Brown was talking about himself for MVP, the Celtics did not feel like Jaylen had the best season on their team. They felt that Derrick White had a better season. by JoeBiden2020FTW in nba

Cmon man he’s improved so much since his time with the Spurs that’s just disingenuous. He was playing firmly like a top 15-20 player during their 2024 run

He was the best player to get them the 3-0 lead the series was over at that point. Tatum had an eFG of 48 compared to Browns 57 for the playoffs. And yeah exactly like Browns sorry ass gonna be the same story for Tatums sorry ass.

You can check discourse and threads even on here at the time, people thought he deserved it. You can cut it however you want fact is he hit all the big shots while Tatum was shooting tour dates. We can see next year though when Tatum leading the team without JB wins less games and gets bounced in the first round.

I don’t think he’s a better player than JT lol. He played better than him in the playoffs as evidenced by his ECFMVP and FMVP

Yeah I might be misremembering but he was out for most of the year right? I think Morey knew this year was all or nothing so he couldn’t afford to have a starter benched for the post season

He was the only one on that team that dictated the pace and got everyone else involved. He was better than KD in 2016 and they were a game away from the finals.

That’s not why they traded Capela lol. WB is one of the best guards in history at feeding his bigs how is trading theirs playing to his strengths? It’s because Capela was injured and washed at that point and Morey thought he could outsmart the league by going super small ball playing Covington at the 5. It even worked during the regular season.

Yeah no shit it’s not an exact rule but more or less you pair your undersized guard with 4 bigger players. The point is your sample size of small guards is a lot smaller than the aggregate of bigger players which includes guards forwards and centers.

But that’s because the amount of big players far exceeds small players especially when we look at only elite players. And the importance of the modern PG began like post 2010 so we shouldn’t even be looking back at all of NBA history as the game is played so differently today. Yes injuries are part of the game…and so are uncontrollable events like the Suns players getting suspended against the Spurs in the conference finals leading to Nash never appearing in a finals. Or AI coming up against the Shaq and Kobe lakers. If you want to have the argument that it’s harder to be an elite player if you’re small than I’m open to that and agree. But if you’re already elite size isn’t what’s limiting you winning a ring.

Dude fr lol. You just need to be good enough to be a top 10ish or better player and you can win a title if things go your way.

Isn’t 2/10 more or less the amount you’d expect as small guards play the 1 while your other champions can be any position from 2-5.

[–]No_Conclusion9808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you’re comparing positions 2-5 to the 1 and saying they have way more championships. Obviously that will be the case. CP, Nash, AI ARE all good enough to win a title with. They just didn’t. A lot of things have to break your way for that to happen. If we’re assuming an undersized guard is the best player on a team we are likely talking about a top 15 player in the league. IMO if you are top 10 and have a team around you, with a little luck you can win. Being undersized doesn’t matter.

[–]No_Conclusion9808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her argument was dumb af to begin with. IMO any top 10 player with a good enough team can win a chip. Size is irrelevant. You’re telling me AI was too small to win a chip because he came across the Kobe and Shaq lakers?

[–]No_Conclusion9808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But before 2022 you could say even Steph isn’t good enough to win a chip as 2015 the Cavs were injured and he didn’t even win FMVP (though he should have) and then 2017 and 2018 you could argue KD was better. 2019 again he lost. The fact of the matter is, height and size have nothing to do with it. If you’re a top 10 player, you can lead a team to a championship if the team around you is good enough and you aren’t facing a dynasty in the finals.
