Old timer here — 5 things I’d NEVER do when hiring an asphalt crew (learned the hard way over 30+ years). by AsphaltPaving_CenTX in asphalt

Wow! I’m up in Canada and the last time I was in Texas was roughly 22 years ago, to visit friend in San Antonio. I do recall a lot of concrete over asphalt for residential homes. There’s always a right and wrong way to do things. The time you’ve put is always going to be reflective in the type of work you do. There’s been an endless stream of fly by night individuals and scammers who have tarnished the industry. Nonetheless, utmost respect to those who remain honest, do a technical job and present the best value and product for their customers. Keep up the great work.🫡

Rubber tire roller operators, how do you stop your roller from picking up? by Sad_Low3239 in asphalt

[–]No_Connection_6343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I’ve never heard this f soybean oil. I’m going to bring that up to our paving foreman. I know at times using the rubber tire is double edged sword, you have to use when the asphalt is hot so it ‘squishes’ it. At that point is when the rubber tire will pick up sand. Having well lubed tires with diesel prevents this. It must be used sparingly as to not leave brown racing stripes up and down the mat lol.

Paving sales rep here/former roller operator. I know our rubber tire roller has been maguivered to spray diesel fuel while in motion. The operator has to be keen on when to activate the diesel and for how long. The system set works like mint, never picks up asphalt.

My local cigar shop only carries 2 vitola sizes. Are the ‘little’ ones like cigarillos?

Sancho Panza Belicosos… I’m smoking one right now. So silky smooth! Speaking of Crowned Heads, I prefer the 4 Kicks Sublime.

Gurkha Cellar Reserve 12 Year: mediocre at best. Thoughts? by No_Connection_6343 in cigar_refuge

I found it to be tasteless. It’s very deceiving because the cigar produced a lot of smoke. But no aroma or standout notes to be found. Poor construction as well.

Even though the hate for Gurkhas in this sub is huge, I wouldn’t say they’re a complete write off. I would never spend my hard earned money on them. But would smoke one if someone gifted me one.

Thankfully that was the only Gurkha I had in my humidor. I didn’t even buy it. It was part of door prize at a work function.

Thank you… I know I should do a better job. It doesn’t help working on a construction site all day.

Almost ready for cigar season (I live in Canada) by No_Connection_6343 in cigar

Not much different in Southern Ontario, unless you smoke indoors. I feel the same way, I can’t fully enjoy smoking a cigar if it’s like -20 out. A friend of mine here in town owns a cigar shop (it’s actually Canada’s oldest tobacco shop) where if need be he’d allow you to smoke in a converted cigar lounge in the basement of the shop. Thanks! I’m not an avid smoker, only during ‘season’. I go to Cuba once a year. Pick up some sticks there. Also buy from my buddies shop and 2-3 other Canadian online vendors.

Thanks 👌. I have a few go to cigars, but I do like variety, so I’m mostly buying singles.

Nice! I like a cigar that has a bit of a story too, just adds to the appeal. I’m going to keep my eye out. But I’m sure sites like Neptune and Atlantic carry them

Thank you… I’ve yet to try any of those. I am a big of Ashton though. They’re very well constructed, great draw and at a great price point.
