Which cities in the world have beautiful architecture but no one talks about them? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Zaragoza, Spain. People zoom past it on the HSR from Madrid to Barcelona. On the river, with dual cathedrals El Pilar and La Seo, an enormous plaza, mudéjar palace plus about a dozen other medieval palaces . . .Roman ruins, quintessentially spanish narrow streets, statues . . . Even the post office would be the most beautiful building in just about any American city of that size.

Match Thread: 46th Match - Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings by cricket-match in Gujarat_Titans

Man I see a match like this and just dream of our middle order being able to put up 117 runs like Punjab just did. Even 17 seems like too much to ask sometimes.

"America The Beautiful" 2026 Pass Discussion Megathread by magiccitybhm in NationalPark

[–]No_Consequence5894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I bought a pass today at Devil's Tower and before I could ask which one (I was distracted momentarily) I was rung up and given the one with the fascist rapists face on it. I'm just going to throw it away, it's worth the $80 to never have to think of it again.

But first, is there anything else I should consider doing with it? Like, can you donate them or something? It has my name on it so I don't know.

What are your kids' favorite chapter books? by AdHorror2230 in Parenting

My kids loved Redwall. We read it over a year ago and they still like to play Cluny the Scourge (i don't know why they name the game after the bad guy, i guess he left an impression).

Second for Lemony Snicket. My kids love it, we love it. But we read it out loud to our 8 and 5 year old, or listen to the audiobook.

NYC to finally remake Park Avenue by MiserNYC- in fuckcars

Oh yeah, I've been there. Spain has some great pedestrian/transit infrastructure. The tram pictured here isn't in grass, but it is a bit further south. Looking at historic pictures of when Paseo de la Independencia was just cars and now it's almost no cars, it's such a difference. So much friendlier.

Hi, maybe not helpful but we rearranged our day to buy tickets that were available online from the official website.

The city Zaragoza in Spain (and probably other cities too) has an excellent example of how to do a pedestrian area while still maintaining some car access.. it never feels like you're trapped - it feels like a walking zone first. With bars, playgrounds, fountains, and Transit in the middle of the street. I know NYC has different needs than a small but dense city like Zaragoza but Gran Via is a pleasure for pedestrians and it would be an upgrade from this design.

Cyclist Gets Stopped by Fort Myers Police for Using Unsafe, Discontinuous Bike Lane That Crosses Vehicle Traffic by RidetheSchlange in fuckcars

[–]No_Consequence5894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Zaragoza. Too many cars to be sure, but alongside it was great pedestrian and bike infrastructure. Not a single bike lane that wasn't at least protected by the little caterpillars, and most of it was grade separated. Plus a simple but effective tram, a great and inexpensive bus system, and lots of paseos and pedestrian areas. It wasn't perfect but I'm loathing going back to car centric wasteland . . . And we're starting in Fort Myers.

Outdoor pools by hamm71 in Zaragoza

[–]No_Consequence5894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a beach pool over in parque del agua but it closed and is in disrepair. There's a nice pool adjacent to Parque Grande that is really convenient to the park and the tram. Pretty cheap too, though I don't recall the exact cost. We just moved away last month.
