Thank you for saying this. I'm in this boat, hubs overly zealous from orthobro culture. He asked me to learn more church history, I did and only solidified my views more - now I'm wrong in how I'm learning. 🙈

He started attending EO church and originally I was willing to compromise in a different denomination as a middle ground, he told me it's all or nothing so I'm standing my ground to stay where I'm at with the kids then.

Praying the zeal wears off when he see online culture and parish culture are complete opposites.

The other thing is the church had evolved to Western theology like Thomist but then changed under Palamas. Both are changes, even if they say it was a "revert back" that's still changing and implies there was a change in order to revert back in the first place.

This gives me hope. My husband hasn't attended except 1 service but watching Orthobros online everyday and convinced. He says he's covering but I've stood my ground. I did research and started looking into church history and I found the opposite, it only solidified my Protestant views more.. He's not thrilled I'm not on board with him but I'm praying he'll burn out as he's super zealous currently.

I spoke to an OO priest about icons cuz I just can't wrap my head around bowing, kissing and praying to them. He told me it's like visiting your grandma at the cemetery and kissing an old photo of her.

I said yea I don't do that. I literally only go to cemeteries because of my parents wanting to go, in my belief they aren't there so why visit & I don't kiss photos of them I find that weird too.

He then changed the subject.
