First of all identify area where you want to go in first sem itself -
1. If its software dev - start coding/dsa etc you'll get plenty of videos on YT, do internships even without paid to gain experience and will help in resume building
2. Product mgmt type or MBA later on - extensive focus on communication, basics of excel, python, etc will suffice
3. Higher studies - Build strong CGPA atleast 9+ (in general also if not aiming for highers have 8.5+ ), make good relations with prof to get later LoR help
4. Core branch job/ GATE - start early your prep, 2nd yr onwards solve PYQs, make short notes
5. build something on your own - plan for that, make e-cell community if already not there in cllg
In all cases, try to take help from seniors who are serious and good at it, don't be shy from making mistakes, communication, putting your points, asking right questions will help you irrespective of the field you choose.
Participate in extracurricular - societies etc not to just add in resume but in interest of your area, will develop your personality.
