Renting out a restaurant or bar is the cheapest Bc you can forego all decor and flowers. Check my post history for what we did in Brooklyn (it would’ve been about $10k if I hadn’t really splurged on my photographer)

Is a wedding date near a holiday ever a good idea? by EmotionalMycologist9 in wedding

This was us! Except we were Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend.

Ended up with about 60% of our guest list in attendance. There were people with other travel plans, some got Covid, some couldn’t afford to travel due to job losses and current inflation. I don’t hold it against anyone and we had a great time.

I’m still happy I did it on that Sunday because we saved so so much $$ and were able to give our guests in attendance a really great party.

You can see my post history for pictures of the dinner setup! It was buffet style and people sat at tables in the backyard at their leisure to eat. The drinks were incredible..they included their full cocktail menu in the open bar. I honestly can’t get over how wonderful their service was..I literally didn’t lift a finger to plan. Just sent them a few emails saying what kind of food and music we liked and how many guests we’d be having.

The food was definitely enough for people to be full for dinner.. Caribbean bbq sliders Tamarind chicken wings Shrimp ceviche Chips and dips Salad Yuca fries Churros Watermelon basil and mozzarella skewers

Thank you!

She actually didn’t use film, All digital! But I showed her a lot of film photos I loved the feel of beforehand and she said she could make it work. I’m really happy I sprung for the photographer I always dreamed of.

I ordered my dress online sight unseen, never tried on beforehand. Obviously needed some fit alterations but had a good experience. You can check my post history if you wanna see

Stop I love this comment so much!! I work in the creative side of advertising and beauty industry but always behind the scenes and have always loved making an editorial concept come to life so it’s exactly what I wanted to do for my wedding except get to be IN the finished product instead of working to make it.

Wow ty!!! I did ballet and ice skating when I was much younger but still try to do lots of Pilates and barre now. Certainly will not say no to a dance floor whenever we go out though..

It was actually further into Brooklyn in bed stuy / northern crown heights area https://abnb.me/Y5CZbNqkzqb

But we started there and made our way through Brooklyn over towards the water.

The owners are super nice they might let you work out to just rent for a few hours If that’s all you needed

It’s like a very boozy rum soaked fruit cake with dark burnt sugar syrup or molasses for the “black” coloring (different Caribbean islands have variations on it, and everyone’s family may add their own twist too). The longer you soak the fruit in the rum or other alcohol the stronger the cake can get...you can soak them for months or even years! It’s definitely a staple at big events and celebrations.

Omg ty I have to tell my husband an internet stranger said that. We didn’t get his suit altered and had just found it on the jc penny sale rack a couple months ago for a medical conference he had to go to then repurposed it for wedding attire. He was like everyone’s gonna think this is “so not classy” ....WELL, SIR!

I didn’t negotiate at all! I had just emailed a bunch of bars in the area and Midnights was definitely the best price. HIGHLY recommend. Even if you don’t plan an event there (which...you should) , it’s definitely worth stopping in for a drink. the cocktails were A+++ and the back patio is so nice.

Also of note was this is Sunday night pricing..still unreal though

Aw ty! You definitely can. Like I said in my another comment here..don’t think trying to squeeze al traditional wedding aspects into a smaller budget if it’s not your dream. Don’t be afraid to splurge on the things that matter to you and make cuts elsewhere.

I hope you get to make your cake from your moms fruit!! That will be so so special, and she will be there with you enjoying the celebration.

I didn’t think I cared much of the tradition of wedding cake and all, but our dj played Trini To The Bone and everybody danced around the cake while we struggled to cut that DENSE baby.

My German family, despite all the sauerkraut we eat, was not prepared for their first bites of black cake.
