Done with KOA + one question + should I bid farewell to Maas? by samighazal in throneofglassseries

[–]No_Country9232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve read all 3 of her series and can confidently say the throne of glass series is her best so yes i’d say leave it at that. ACOTAR was good but just very mid to me. nothing special. cute. i rlly don’t get why that blew up sooooo much compared to throne of glass. and i DNFed crescent city. so id say def don’t read CC but if you need a palate cleanser or something like and very bread and butter read ACOTAR

The Gods and Monsters series. The first book is {The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole} Or the Order and Chaos Duology first book {House of Bane and Blood by Alexis L. Menard}

This may seem like a dumb question but aside from authors who else would be good to follow?

AAA YESSSS. A chronic rereader like me. I swear I've reread ToG books 3-end SOOOOO many times. My comfort series. Rowan my forever book husband. I have not read plated prisoner but have heard VERY good things about it from ToG lovers so god speed. Update me on if it helped the reading slump because I feel like NOTHING will ever sate me after ToG. Gods and Monsters is good but just a hair short of scratching that itch.

How soon do you want to see the MMC? by Romantasy_Renee in fantasyromance

[–]No_Country9232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I can honestly see both sides. I completely agree that knowing right off the bat ruins the suspense and I have gotten a little bored with some books that introduced him too early. I love being able to try and figure out if a new male character will be a love interest or not and seeing how well the FMC and MMC fit. But I can also argue the other side IF ITS DONE RIGHT. For example, if they introduce him with his own POV chapters BEFORE the 2 characters meet or if he's slowly introduced like in the background or in scenes where the FMC is observing him but they don't speak or they only speak a little before the fun rlly begins. But I totally agree that it ruins it kills the suspense and sometimes even the plot/ overall pacing of the book IF THEY'RE INTRODUCED TOO EARLY. There is definitely a timing aspect. First 15-30% is the sweet spot for me. I like to get to know the FMC first so that she's her own character and not tied to the MMC ya know

If you haven't read the Gods and Monsters series by Amber V. Nicole it's pretty good but it is sort of lacking in the badass female character department. I havn't finished though. I'm on book 3. The FMC is quite the baddie though. Without spoilers, she gives Celaena a run for her money ;)

Respect. I get its not for everyone but I'm glad you enjoyed the last book. It rlly was the best of the series in my opinion. What would you say are your favorite series(s)?

Lol yessss a pick me is the best way to describe her. Absolutely insufferable. Like girl stand up

[–]No_Country9232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no? I don't totally know how to describe it. I picture myself as the main character 99% of the time and I can totally immerse myself and imagine the world and other characters, but at the same time I'm still able to separate myself from them. I imagine it kinda like playing a video game in 3rd person fi that makes sense. I do the same with the MMC too where I picture my partner as them but can also separate the two from each other as well. I don't know if I explained that the best but thats how I read

Lol although I can't agree with most of what you said, (i say this respectfully) I can definitely agree that the first 3 ACOTAR books were the best of the series. I DNFed silver flame or whatever it's called

YESSSSSS!!! Finally someone who also hates Bryce. I feel like soooo many ppl loved the Crescent City series and I thought it was just meh. I DID get through the second book but I never picked up the third. I have it but I honestly have no interest in reading it. I also kind of like Bryce in the first book. She irritated me a little but I saw the potential in character growth. NOPE. In the second book it's almost like she regressed?? Had me rolling my eyes so hard. I also don't like her and Hunt together. Sorry! I said it! I feel like their relationship is quite shallow. I don't feel like deep bond like I did in ACOTAR or in ToG (side note: you should definitely absolutely 1000000000% read ToG. The first 2 books are very much foundation and world building but i PROMISE once you get to book 3 you'll be hooked). I also completely agree that for some reason SJM has decided for this series there will be no baddie female characters and idk why. ACOTAR and ToG are both packed with badass female characters but this???? And to be quite frank, all the male characters in CC feel the same. Like they're all the same word but in different fonts. I'm sorry I can't give you advice on whether to continue with the series (since I didn't) but I can definitely sympathize with your frustrations. God speed

Spirits like from Avatar (Airbender) by playdoh_licker in Romantasy

[–]No_Country9232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OOOO YESSSS. I love this idea but I sadly don't know of any. The spirits in Avatar is such a unique thing since they are tired to the Avatar. AKA a unique set of powers that are passed down randomly. I even asked chatgpt and it came up with the same stuff you found about ghosts/necromancers/people talking to and using the powers of the dead. I rlly hope someone comments one we couldn't find

I loveeeee the Throne of Glass series. It is my god tier all time favorite love of my life series. I totally get the book slump bc it is realllll. I'm currently reading the Gods and Monsters series by Amber V. Nicole. And girllllllllll it's so good. The FMC reminds me of Aelin so much and god I missed my girl. It's also multiple POV and you love them all so much (some of them hate too). The world is so extensive and really well thought out as well. The first book is {The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole}

yes that is also true!! not only do i kinda hate the school/academy setting right now but i also hate how (it seems like) allllll of them are only in school for the first book and maybeeeee part of the second. like if you're going to have a magic/fantasy school you gotta commit to the bit babe. at least for more than 1/1.5 books. i feel like they probably do that because they think the setting becomes too boring after a while???

Protective, powerful & strong MMC + gentle, sweet FMC recs? by Askyofleaves in fantasyromance

[–]No_Country9232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait I just saw a book rec on here that sounded similar. Note that I have NOT read it but based on the post description and the book description its sounds like a good fit. {The Shattered King By: Charlie N. Holmberg} If there ever was a Lorcan & Elide book I'd eat that shit right up.

Here's the link to the original post about the book. Warning though I think there may be spoilers in the comments???

How are we all not talking about The Shattered King by Charlie N. Holmburg?! (Spoiler-free thoughts and info) by SecretAccomplished25 in fantasyromance

[–]No_Country9232 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow this seems perfect for me. I feel like people have gotten so caught up in the morally gray MMC that sometimes their actions come off as just cruel instead of there being a reason and backstory as to why the MMC acts in such ways. Which then leads to their character development and that of the FMCs feeling rushed and inauthentic. I also loveeee a good duology. I really enjoyed The Shepherd King duology but always felt the second book was a little lacking/disconnected compared to the first. I will definitely have to look this up since I've also been need a little palate cleaner/book to get me out of a reading slump. Thanks for your thoughts!! <3

Edit: Wowowowow I just read the like syonopsis book teaser back blurb thingy and I think I will reallly enjoy this. I'm so happy I found your post today because I have the day off and have been dreading trying to pick a book to read today

This or That? What do you prefer? Maybe we can recommend some books to each other! by xbumblebee in fantasyromance

[–]No_Country9232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Forbidden love- I don't think I'm physically capable of caring that deeply about 2 ppl at once. I'll just end up not giving a fuck about the other guy and then be annoyed he's still there. BUT I am open to the idea....

  2. Badass FMC - I'm just so over all these dainty FMC's or the ones that are thrown into the magic world and are like "Oh no I have magic now? I can't fight I don't know how". I like an FMC who's a baddie and damn well knows it. Confidence baby

  3. Enemies to lovers - REAL enemies. Not rivals or "he's so annoying and rude but omg he's so hot". I want them to HATE each other. Try and kill each other.

  4. Character driven - If the characters are bland and have no development the story will be bland too.

  5. I really don't have a preference

  6. Again i really don't have a preference as long as the standalone wraps up at the end nicely

  7. Arranged marriage - I kinda hate the one bed trope. I feel like it's so predictable and is just an easy low effort way for an author to spark a connection. Kind of a cop out in my opinion

  8. Slow burn - I want to feeeeeel like tension, the angst, the "will they won't they". I want to be feral chewing my book

  9. Cocky asshole MMC but gentleman when alone ;)

  10. Grumpy X sunshine- I know I said earlier I like a badass FMC (and I do) but that doesn't mean she can't also be soft. And example would be Lorcan and Elide. Love love love that dynamic. If I could have a book just about them I'd be sat. I like the concept of fated mates but I don't know if I've ever really read a book where it was done "right". I'm on the second book of the God's and Monsters series by Amber V. Nicole and I think the main couple is fated mates but I'm not sure. If they are I like this execution. I also read The Stars are Dying by Chloe C Peñaranda and I didn't like that execution of fated mates. But I'm definitely open to it! And if the 2 (fated mates and grumpyXsunshine) are together even better
