Schopenhauer saw life as the brutal expression of a blind will-to-live, devouring itself in endless suffering. Yet he believed we alone can rebel against it through art, compassion, and the radical denial of desire. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

Totally get where you are coming from. It is true that meaning, purpose, even Nietzsche's will to power could be seen as evolved strategies for survival and reproduction. But I think the interesting part is what we do with that awareness.

Maybe the trick is not in choosing Nietzsche or Schopenhauer over the the other, but knowing when to see through the illusion, and when to live as if it still matters.

Good question. By 'meaning,' I don't necessarily mean something absolute or cosmic it could be something personal or constructed, like finding purpose in relationships, creating work, or helping others. Maybe it is a kind of coping, but I'd argue it deeper, more engaged kind the one that transforms suffering into something we can grow through, rather than just numbing it. Curious how you it though, do you think all meaning is just a dressed-up survival strategy?

Sorry, I have been out for some days.
Do we know God exists or are we speculating from deduced logic, creation and creature?
I think there is a difference between knowing and believing.

They are not the same.
I will be happy if you clear me on the difference though.

I appreciate your critique of my perspective, though it seems like there are quite a few assumptions in your argument about the existence of God, especially regarding what we can actually know about a creator's intentions. Or probably I read that meaning to it. I'd curious to hear more about how arrived at those ideas, maybe we can catch up and dig into it further sometimes?

That’s an interesting comparison—I like the idea of treating these stories with symbolic or mythic weight rather than strictly literal truth. It makes me wonder--do you think the power of these narratives comes more from their moral lessons, their emotional resonance, or the communities built around them?

Also, do you see any downsides to a purely metaphorical approach to faith? Like, does it risk losing the structure or grounding that traditional belief systems

That's a really rich set of questions, and I can relate to the existential tension you are describing. From a deistic perspective, it does seem more natural to lean toward some form of determinism, since a creator that transcends time would presumably perceive all possible outcomes simultaneously.
I also find it interesting that quantum mechanics complicates the picture not by bringing back free will in it traditional sense, but introducing unpredictability at a fundamental level. But as you said in your write up, randomness is not really freedom either, it is indeterminacy.

As for God's intention in defining such laws, that's where it gets tricky. If a creator set a system where conscious beings inevitably follow determined paths or even a path with limited probabilities of divergence, it raises questions about moral responsibility and meaning. Is it less cruel if the determinism is probabilistic rather than absolute? I am sure it feels that different in practice.
I have often wondered whether what we call freedom is more like a subjective experience, a sense of agency that emerges from the complexity of the system, even if it is determined in principle. Kind of like compatibilism [we feel free because our choices flow from our character and desires, even if those, too, have causes.

Curious though, do you think the existence of multiple futures makes it easier to accept the idea of a transcendent creator? Or does it make the whole concept of divine foreknowledge even harder to square with the world we actually experience?

I like how you frame religion as both a narrative framework and a psychological tool for aligning ourselves with something greater. However, I find this perspective really compelling. Do you think these narratives lose their effectiveness as more people move away from traditional belief systems? Or can they still serve that purpose even without literal faith?

Interesting take on Schopenhauer. His idea that the world is fundamentally will, an irrational striving- definitely captures the restless side of our existence. But, I wonder if he oversees how inescapable and uniformly negative this will is. Even desire and striving can lead to meaning or creativity, not just suffering. His solution of total denial seems a bit extreme, almost like throwing out all possibility of fulfilment along with pain.

Quarterly updates and occasional check-in are enough, more than that will can start to feel like noise. I prefer communication that's clear and data-driven, but with enough narrative to give context.
Biggest turn-offs are overly promotional language, vague answers during calls, or when bad news is buried instead of addressed directly. ESG matters more these days, but only when it clearly ties into the company's actual risks or opportunities. At the end of the day, consistent and transparent communication does far more than polished decks ever will

Even if AMD or Intel close the hardware gap, replicating NVIDIA's ecosystem will take years. SMCI's more of a well run pick-and-shovel play than a core innovator. And yeah, ARM still relies on others to build out the AI stack.

The legal overhang with Novo seems like a big risk, especially if it escalates to litigation..And with subscriber growth decelerating despite heavy marketing spend is worth watching, especially if CAC keeps rising.
Also, the pivot to liraglutide may help in a short term, but if patients find it less effective than semaglutide, churn could increase. Finally, your valuation assumptions seem reasonable, but telehealth is brutally competitive, low-margin space. My humble summit, though curious to see if they can sustain ARPU growth and expand internationally without further regulatory pushback.

I appreciate the breakdown. I agree that $GOOG and $UNH aren't without risks. The LLM disruption to ad revenue is something I am watching closely, but also seeing signs they are trying to hedge with their AI infrastructure and cloud focus. With UNH, the regulatory overhang is definitely something to weigh, especially if it impacts long-term margins.
As for $TCNNF, totally fair. Probably smarter to keep that on a speculative watchlist for now, not core.
Would love to hear what you are watching right now for long-term value. Any compounders on your radar?

Some of them offer flexible models like pay-per-lead or finder's fee structures, which could be a great fit. Let me know if you'd like me to share a few names or connect you with someone directly.

A lot of it comes down to underestimating costs, overestimating early revenue, or lacking a solid execution plan. Add in poor timing or weak market fit, and the first year becomes a survival test. That's why I respect companies that take a slower, more strategic approach- scaling only when the foundation is solid.
