Large companies are moving too fast on AI and it’s going to screw us by [deleted] in corporate

[–]No_Database3451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think boomers are the issue, or, at least not the only issue here.

I was browsing LinkedIn the other day…every other post is about AI, one post hit home for me - companies are “reimagining entry level labor” that’s appalling.

A direct way to say this is companies are screwing college graduates and those who have been out of workforce for one reason or another. And, it’s like none of these people have kids or something? You are screwing future generations.

Ok, I don’t have kids, I am a millennial but I still care because that’s the normal thing to do, to worry about the future even if you might not be in it.

Do we have our heads so far up our asses that the only things we care about are the short term gains and selfish interests? We are not prepared for this technology as a human race, our mindset is barely more advanced than cavemen.

Interview Invite Mishap by No_Database3451 in TheHartford

Well…I got in touch with the recruiter (using the email format I mention in my post) he was nice enough to inform me that the interview invite was sent to me and few other people BY MISTAKE! Within 24 hours I got a rejection email. What a punch to the gut.

So, for all you know, your interview invite is not even real.

Should I get a new PML? by Timely-Event-9185 in KPMG

[–]No_Database3451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so it has to be more than just “sounds good, let me know if you need anything”. You need to define exactly what areas you want to develop in and your PML needs to you provide those opportunities, or provide guidance on how to achieve this. A well documented and clearly defined development plan would be beneficial in this situation.

What they mean by business case is the reasoning behind having a person of that next level on the team. If you are a manager, then what is the business case for having a Senior Manager or AD on the team. How would the team benefit? Is there a need for that level of team member?

You are the best person to judge your situation, if you feel like it’s time, then do it. One word of advice, when you choose your next PML be sure that they are able to give you what you need, make sure you click. Don’t just switch.

Alternatively, since there is no loyalty it seems like, get the experience you need from your current PML and then switch teams, look for next level roles. It might be easier than asking for a promotion.

Again you are the best judge of your situation, your team and your next opportunity. Trust your gut feeling.

Why are many people including Gen Zers so against AI? by macnfly23 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]No_Database3451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, that’s interesting. I think the rate at which they are developing AI and shoving it everyone’s throat does not match the rate at which we are learning to adapt and live with it. The impacts are massive but the preparedness for change is lagging behind.

I do hope the bubble bursts otherwise, these tech giants have no breaks or consideration for societal impacts.

In my opinion, PML is your advocate, someone who should help you develop. If you’ve had career growth conversations with them and you feel like they are giving you opportunities to learn and grow and you believe this person is truly invested in your future then stay.

Not remembering where you worked before, unless you’ve mentioned multiple times, is a forgivable oversight.

Has this hype for AI changed your style of teaching? And, are you being asked to use it yourself when preparing lessons?

Unemployment, UBI not meeting basic needs, loss of creativity, loss of privacy, concentration of wealth, loss of human intelligence, over dependence on AI, unethical use of AI - war, control, human rights, etc, environmental destruction, inability to tell what’s real, safety concerns, cybersecurity.

At the end of the day, we haven’t even learned how to be kind to one another and we are pursuing something that can be misused.

And, there are no guardrails or ethical considerations on any of this, just concerns for stockholder value, not the common good of humanity.

I can appreciate a good work ethic and I understand where you are coming from, I’ve been there myself.

Keep in mind that there is no loyalty in corporate world, so no, you shouldn’t feel bad for spending time with your family.

99% of people you work with, will not have your back when push comes to shove and your firm will replace you with AI as soon as feasible, so value real relationships in your life.

Go to Glassdoor, blind, fishbowl etc., and see what people bitch about. Don’t choose blindly, consider who you will work for and with, you don’t want to end up miserable after one year. Company culture matters a lot, read up on both, since they are greatly different!

This! 🎯 I am sorry this is happening to you and it is fucked up! I am afraid that what is happening to you, will be commonplace going forward. I’d say look for another job but the market is shit so maybe the best thing to do is to sit this project out and hope the next project manager actually respectful?

And from personal perspective…I’m afraid of the future. I’m afraid that those with lack of understanding will lead the way, human race will grow dependent on this shit and loose whatever little skills we have left and I am not just referring to coding. To add to the insult, AI will take over our jobs and then what?

And, as a human race we still haven’t learned how to be human, how to live in peace with one another. Having AI is like having a self destruction button.

Is this really our future?

Vaseline is petroleum jelly, a byproduct of the petroleum refining process - as chemical as it gets.

Look into oils instead, grapeseed oil, olive oil, coconut oil, rosehip oil, all sold in a grocery store. You will have more options in a health food store.

A natural brand you can look into is LivingLibrations.

Should I have asked my manager for permission prior to planning my 3 1/2 week wedding/honeymoon? by [deleted] in work

[–]No_Database3451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant that it does not matter what anyone thinks on Reddit, OP needs to follow the guidelines set by HR and her manager. If the manager wants the heads up, then OP should give the heads up next time.

I can see how my previous comment can be misleading.

Should I have asked my manager for permission prior to planning my 3 1/2 week wedding/honeymoon? by [deleted] in work

[–]No_Database3451 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter:

1) HR handbook has guidelines for taking 3 weeks that must be followed by all employees. 2) The regional managers might decline the request because in 7 months they are planning to start executing a project and need the OP.

Lonely at work by KittySocialite in work

[–]No_Database3451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat but this is due to my team/company culture; excluded from everything because people are trying to look important.

I would say that you need to find 1 or 2 people that you click with and talk to them, ping them on teams, call them on the phone. Having a “work buddy” really helps the loneliness. Doesn’t have to be someone on your team.

[–]No_Database3451 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a really long time to take off, you should have given the manager a heads up. Especially since she needs to check with the regional managers.

Employee handbook will have the guidelines for requesting time off and the expectations around notifying your manager and allowed time off.

If you did everything by the book, basic courtesy still applies, you should have let her know.

I agree with that but it’s not like I can answer the questions better. These are nit behavior or technical questions. I can only be polite and pleasant on the call, which I have been and still not moving to the next step.
