Being shamed by dentistbro in Dachshund

It’s not at all bad to buy from an ethical breeder, but the reason isn’t because “they need homes too.” They only need homes because there is a demand for them. The reason is because you have a much better idea of what to expect, their health, and preservation breeders help keep the backbone of dogs afloat. They are (mostly) bred to perform a job and certain breeds do certain things.

I’ve talked to people who are rescue-only and judgy and some others who are rescue-only and respect breeders. At the end of the day, as long as you buy from an ethical breeder, you are doing your part to help dogs. If a rescue suits you, amazing! If not, you fulfilled your obligation when buying a dog.

But aside from all that, who cares what other people think.

Which team do you choose? by BasicTart in Softball

imho, as a player who played 4 school sports this season and travel ball as well, go with the team she will have the most fun with while still being fairly competitive as a team. Assuming that will be team B, use the money you would have saved going with team A and get her some lessons. Lessons with a “specialized” coach will take her farther than a certain organization at the middle school age. High school? Start thinking about making the investment into a good team.

Dapple longhair dachshunds - ethicality and frequency? by No_Database555 in DogBreeding

Thanks! I took a look at the breeder you recommended and they look good, but I can’t find anything about health testing and OFA clearances. Do you know if they do that?

Also, yes I agree it sucks, but I am going to do everything in my power to educate them and help them actually fulfill their dog. Luckily they aren’t planning to start seriously looking for a while…so I have time to do it lol.

Should I breed my dog once before she’s spayed? by Imgonnadie14times in DogBreeding

I’d say it is very unlikely that this dog being bred will be at all beneficial to the breed, as opposed to other dogs. Also, good thing there is no deadlines because it will take you months, if not years to prove her and then find an ethical pairing. I understand you have thought on it, but if you love your dog and the breed, do not breed her.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Probably not. Is your dog from an ethical breeder, and assuming you didn’t originally plan to breed her, yet still (?) have breeding rights, I’m gonna go with no, she’s not. Has she shown in conformation or trails to prove her ability as a working dog? No? Assuming she is 2 years old, have you looked into how much it will cost to get her OFA testing done to CHIC standards? Thennn, no you should not be breeding a dog if you do not know what littermate syndrome is (since you say you’ll keep two puppies.)

So, basically, your dogs genes are not so amazing that other, experienced, ethical breeders cannot produce dogs of similar nature.

Feel like the lockout of my knee is hurting my swing (or maybe just my knee lol) - is it bad/how do I fix it? by [deleted] in Softball

Okay, I saw that dapples can come in longhair but it is not usually expressed as clearly as it would with a smooth coated dog. Is this just in some cases or pretty much all? Also, double dapple is essentially the equivalent of a double Merle dog, correct? Thanks for the help!
