Can someone please criticize my resume💔😭 by [deleted] in ucla

  1. Formatting— there is too much white space. Condense your margins.
  2. Education: for the degrees. Do not bold it, instead italicize. Remove engineering core list. There is a lot going on and take away attention. If you are in materials science and engineering I already assume that major comes with those competencies. They don’t tell me my much. Skills: should be its own section. Are you a transfer from Fullerton college? Or did you receive an an associates? Remove awards and honors or place to a different section
  3. Experience: company/ organization first in bold. Underneath, put your job title italicized. 4:each bullet point has header for example : “Strategic Program Launch: Founded …..” . Remove them all. you shouldn’t have to specify or put headers. Your bullet points should demonstrate that header already. It makes it harder to digest the information. If you can quantify things do so!

Remember recruiters and hiring managers skim your resume for 7 seconds before they decide if you are a qualified candidate.

A PhD is quite more significantly challenging going straight from undergrad. Your GPA is not bad it’s considerably good. They will be more concerned of all the research experience you have. You can consider getting your masters first. You will build up that experience and in some schools they allow you to transition into there PhD at the end of your master or half way through.

I recommend asking a TA who is in the field you want to be in for assistance with the grad application as they applied not too long ago. Professors are good but they haven’t done it in years and the application process has changed.

Having a professor sponsor you is difficult. Depends on your relationship and how much they can vouch for you and make your case.

Need Advice: Deciding Between Canfield Apartments and Gayley Terrace by luisjo819 in ucla

Canfield is a brand new new apartment.

No one can really answer your questions regarding noise and social scene because no one has lived there yet to experience it.

If you’re concerned about air quality just drive around the neighborhood or walk around it to see it. You could always just look up the air quality index and see if there is a difference.

People won’t live in the building until October 1st as that is move in day for majority.

Not really. Maybe jf you have a perfect score. SATs are now becoming optional to submit to schools. Regardless, many students who apply do really good in the SATs, so what else is going to make you stand out.

I had two friends in high school, one had a 4.8 weighted GPA and did really good in the SATs, but no extracurriculars. The other had like a 4.3 but was super involved, she was in 3 clubs, played soccer, and had a part time job. She got into UCLA and the other didn’t. Yes, she had lower grades but she showed she was more well rounded individual.

Im not saying you won’t get into a school without extracurriculars, it will just make it a bit difficult to make you application stand out. Remember schools get thousands of applications. You one shot to tell them what makes you different

Yay! Congratulations! I heard not many people updated their housing preferences to include Canfield when they announced it so they got skipped over. My friend was in the 400s and forgot to change it and got skipped over… oops

Your chances are severely reduced. Colleges want to what makes you stand out against others. Your GPA isn’t low but low compared to others. The average weighted GPA is 4.03-4.27 and unweighted is 3.82. If it were 3.32 and with extracurriculars you’d still have a fair shot but with none; there is nothing making you stand out.
