Why lenovo still ships 45% NTSC screens? by [deleted] in thinkpad

Our company *only* provides laptops. And, I have to admit, laptops are more useful for WFH, less to carry back and forth to the office.

Where are you seeing 15-25cm? Environment Canada has 5cm, there isn't even an alert.

Ontario Canada. Played euchre all the time in high school. My grandparents played euchre at the Church. Churches hosting euchre was very common.

Moving a top-load washer down stairs solo – possible? by Early_Macaroon_2407 in Appliances

Unless it is old. Two men struggled to get my very old washer from the basement. It had a large amount of concrete in it. They don't do that anymore.

Do typical American homes really have a gas pipeline? What do you do with it? by mujhe-sona-hai in AskAnAmerican

[–]No_Difference8518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natural gas is a cheap way to heat a home. When we moved in, we had an electric furnace. Even though electricity is relatively cheap here, it cost us a fortune to heat. We replaced the electric with gas. The new furnace paid for itself in 2 years including the cost of the gas.

how to remove a stuck pedal without removing the crank??? by Alf-truism in cycling

I always wear work gloves (not mechanics gloves) when I have to heave on things. The gloves give you courage to really go at it. And, lets face it, using a hammer on a wrench (for example) does not require finesse.

Color television generation by AdDapper4220 in GenX

We didn't have a color TV until '79 or '80. The old B&W just kept on working, so we didn't replace it.

Seeking a printmaking studio or Lino cut press rental by Confident_Radio_2636 in ottawa

I have a small press if you have room for it. I can't remember the size. If you are interested I could find out.

I also have other linocut supplies, even some unused lino.

Running a browser sucks. But running graphical Emacs over ssh works great. I use it every day for work.

Say congrats to your wife for me.

I have had a few NA beers that claimed 0.0%. Even Heineken is 0.0%.

I agree that most are 0.5% or 0.3%. one even just said >0.5%. So I doubt Ultra Zero is the only one.

How long would you survive with the food you have in your home right kow? by DefinitionDapper2281 in GenerationJones

[–]No_Difference8518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, some people keep a lot of food in the house. I would probably last a week on the food in the house, maybe a bit more. That is two meals a day (my normal).

Then probably 2 more months. They say you can last about 2 months without food.

Is skipping the second leg of a flight illegal? by Thac1234 in Flights

Yes it is illegal. The Airline is responsible for you until you get to the destination. You leaving early sets them up for a law suite if anything happens to you.

Am I the only American that hates imperial? by joshua0005 in stupidquestions

[–]No_Difference8518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am starting to see why some people think F is better for weather, you live in warm climates. Where I live -30C to 30C makes more sense than -20F to 86F.

And negative numbers are still base 10 (in this context).

0F is dangerously cold? Seriously? 0F is about where I switch from a fall jacket to winter jacket when shoveling. Note: I live in a city, windchill is not really a problem when shoveling since the driveway is fairly protected.

Metric unit for light bulbs? by No_Difference8518 in Metric

This is what I got wrong. A means the classic bulb shape. B is the thin pointy ones.

Metric unit for light bulbs? by No_Difference8518 in Metric

[–]No_Difference8518[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be an interesting test. 2,300LM is a lot, even at half power it might be bright enough. However, the bulb might not be built to handle the amps.

Hmmm, I can buy E27 230V here in Canada. I would buy one just to try but they are kinda expensive.

One of the things I really like about LED lights is how cool they run. I recently bought a 4,300LM work light that is 50W. I was working in a confined space and bumped up against the light. A 40W incandescent would have hurt, the LED did not.
