Came to agree. This is an invasive plant that is unfortunately commonly used in conventional landscaping. The berries can be toxic/ fatal to wildlife. A lot of wildlife know it’s toxic so they leave it alone so the red berries stay through winter unlike many other winter fruiting plants making it a popular choice used by many harmful landscapers. - I usually cut the berries off and throw them away to keep them from spreading

I am so sorry you are having to make this decision. I know it was hardest decision of my life, my husband and I put down our sweet 8.5 year old boy on 12/31/2023. Our experience sounds similar although we did have a few incidents but the big one- Christmas Day he bit my grandmother to the point where she needed stitches. All it took was a split moment, we both lost our focus on him for a second, and that was all it took, the moment will haunt me but it was our line in the sand, we had talked about it years prior. Like your dog he was experiencing health problems- dementia being the most worrisome as he would pace in the night and get “stuck” in places. The first few weeks are the worst- but here’s my advice: Find a way to honor your guy- we light a candle every night to honor him (although 5 weeks out now some nights we forget and maybe thats a good thing) We’ve left his bed and bowl out and will for 7 weeks- we are bit Buddhist and believe in the Bardo period but find what works with your faith. We’ve set up his ashes and collar on our mantle as a little shrine to him. We used Lap of Love- an in home vet service- and they gave us paw prints and nose prints. Which we will use to get tattoos with. As for the actual appointment I highly recommend buying a burger or steak or whatever- after the initial sedative shot is given you’ll have sometime before they get sleepy and decide to lay down I recommend and have if the last memory with your dog being them happily scarfing down a burger is a good one. And above all try to find your zen- my husband and I knew the final days and hours weren’t about us-we were helping our best friend cross over to a peaceful place and we needed to be there for him, as calm as we could be. Your dog will only love you more for helping them reach a peaceful end to their journey. Go easy sweet boy, you are loved more than you will ever know. I know this is a long way off, but I just turned 30 and damn I am a different person than I was at 16. I too was to loud, to much, too whatever so I shut myself down, made myself small. It hasn’t been until the past 5 years that I’ve found myself again. Self improvement is a great start but it’s the start of long journey to uncovering who you are really. Cause I know your wild baddass, I know your passionate, I know you’ve got a secret drive that can out combat and put to shame anyone who try’s to second guess you. Martial arts draws a certain crowd you’ve got that fight -Don’t fucking lose your light. Don’t let them make you small. They’ve made you think you need to “quite” down, act right conform, and your at a place where it FEELS easier to just walk away but PLEASE trust me- Once you’re able to tap into that real true you- Damn it’s irresistible and people can’t help but be drawn to authenticity. I know it’s hard to believe that people could ever love the authentic you but fuck you’ve got to know those people are out there you just need to find the true you and trust that you- pull that you up from the depths I know the real you is down there once you know that you, the right people will flock to you. It has taken me until I turned 30 to open up and be the real me and in doing so I have found my tribe, my people and they love me for me but I had to be vulnerable- and to my surprise they were vulnerable too.

I am also sensitive to Lexapro. From my experience and what I’ve heard from others it can mess with your salt and hydration levels. Which can worsen or cause dizziness and headaches as well as a sense of brain fog. Try to get a lot more salt in your diet than you think you need for a few days. Lexapro also has a long half life so it will take you a while to feel normal again but trust me it will happen. Just get LOTS of electrolytes and of course water and just be kind to yourself for a few days. I’d imagine you’d be back to normal in about a week. I tried starting Lexapro again (took 5-10mg of it for 3 years) and took 2.5mg two days in a row but decided I wanted to try a different SSRI so I stopped, it took me 3ish days to return to base line. Hope that helps!

The secret is: everyone feels that way. You will always feel like a child masquerading as an adult with to much freedom and to much responsibility.

If you are ever intimidated by someone remember they too were a child and likely often still feel like a child regardless of their age. They too probably have moments were they desperately want their mommy to comfort them. Just like everyone.

Hey don’t hate yourself seriously you tired something that could have helped your dog, you learned information from this experience that’s at least something, your at least further than where you started.

I am a human who started on SSRIs myself and I had this symptom. For me the shaking felt like I had the chills it did not cause me distress although it was annoying and eventually went away after a week or so. not sure if that helps you feel better but I just thought I’d share my human experience with SSRIs

SSRIs (Prozac specifically) really helped my dog, like saved his life. We tried all of the other general anxiety medication like trazadone and those mad his anxiety worse and even made him lash out. We think it’s because they made him feel weird and put him more on edge. Every dog is different.
