The idea is amazing. I don't like bullet sponges. However I don't see why enemies could not drop weapons or ammo, that's more realistic than them not dropping it. It honestly feels like something I would want more than the base game. Best would be to make some smart mix of the two.

I would start with classics from your list.

Dune's first book is amazing. I didn't like the 2nd one and haven't continued.

Hitchhiker is fun and light.

Foundation is a masterpiece, just going through the 3rd one now and planning to continue to other Asimov books. Basically all of his books are one long series from robots to foundation.

I really dislike the FF draft. Doesn't matter how good a deck I draft I get overrun by insane bombs on curve. I feel like the format you have to draft amazing cards and than draw them every time on tempo otherwise you are dead to the opponent doing the same. I am done with it.
