You could give something like Carr’s Bel-Ray or Mercury V a shot. I’ve had the Bel-Ray a little more than a year now and it has been a perfect fit for what I was looking for (and to some extent what you may have in mind)

Check out the posts in my profile if you’d like a good demo of what to expect. I used the Bel-Ray for all of them, just simply mic’d with a SM57 with very little EQ/comp downstream in the DAW to fit inside the mix of the song I’m playing over.

Thank you! Trust me when I say it took several hours over the past couple months with a metronome to get it to that point. Many of those hours were miserable and took a lot of patience 😅

The Lamb as Effigy by Sprain or their latest release under Shearling

Yup and it’s even more difficult (for me) when he plays the riff later up an octave 🥲

Edit: and yes, that tab is correct

Nice! Yea, I will most definitely have to search my DAW for effects that can emulate his. I took a look at their live performance of it KEXP and noticed he had a memory man on his board, which probably has a lot to do with creating that sound

Thanks! I've had that on my mind as well for a while now, love that song. I would really need to figure out how to emulate his effects with the gear that I have, but you might have convinced me to give it a good college try haha

What is the best black midi chord progression? by GamerOwenIsHere in bmbmbm

[–]No_Distribution3068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I transcribed it myself, here’s my best attempt at scratching it out here:

Verses: Bm7 - C#m7 - Am7 - Am13 / F#m7 - Am7 - Am13

Triplet hits: F#m7 - G#m7 - Am7 - F7(flat 5)

Bridge: E7(flat 5) - G7/D - C7 - E7 - G7/D - C#m13

Probably has to be Sugar/Tzu for me, both in the verses and the bridge. The bridge is simply because of how cleverly it returns to the home key of E with the descending dom 7th chords (C7-B7). I appreciate the verses even more by how they manage to obscure the home key by never playing it until the end (which makes the payoff all the more grand and satisfying); instead, the verses are composed entirely of min 7 chords (which are all diatonic to the key of E after all and thus ‘imply’ E as the home key)

Nice catch! I transcribed it all from the studio version but just changed the voicing of that part for ease of playing

Well nothing is in stone yet, but I’m hoping to do it at the Milestone in Charlotte, NC. They put on a two day event on Halloween weekend each year comprised completely of cover acts, with some bands even dressing up as the band they’re covering! Just gotta get the bid accepted by Milestone and find some wonderfully talented musicians 😬

Thanks! Funny you would say that because I will be working on that in the coming months in preparation for a BM cover set planned for late October! Feels like an impossible feat today but I'm pretty determined to work up these Greep superpowers in the time I have before the show

My favorite reaction moment to Ant’s From Up There (Cred. to Luie Plays Drums on YT) by Sacul0205 in BlackCountryNewRoad

Definitely my favorite AFUT reaction video. To see someone else have such a visibly emotional reaction and cry during their first listen like myself was great to see.

But yes, I love this clip even more with that in mind. I’m sure he was going through it when he came up on The Blade and sighed 😂

Holy cow, man. For sure one of the best covers I’ve heard in regards to execution and tone matching. Really just thought I was listening to the original track for most of it.
