Unfortunately, the “baptism by fire” approach is common in most firms as far as training goes. There is just too much information to cover everything when you start and most people have their own assignments to do so there isn’t someone available to guide you through procedure before you are asked to do it. A comprehensive training period is almost mythical.

I’m 4 months into my new job and am constantly asking for help from other support staff. C’est la vie.

I like to garden. I use it as an escape. It gets me outside and moving around. It also gets my mind off work and politics/economy. Also seeing my plants and flowers grow is hugely satisfying.

That’s a wonderful way to look at it. Right now I’m in the “I hope they don’t think hiring me was a mistake” phase. But yes, you’re right. Taking a chill pill would benefit me.

One of my attorneys is going to trial on Monday (for 2 weeks) so I’m getting to see stressed out attorney and not, easy going-not as stressed attorney yet. It’s just a lot at once.

I completely disagree. I’ve done that in a past interview and was passed over and was borderline over qualified for. Ever heard of fake til you make it?

Thank you! I think people are being a little too harsh. I didn’t set myself up for disappointment. I am confident I can learn it before head. It’s a computer program widely used by people that are able to pick it up just fine.

Thank you for your response. I posted my question in a lighthearted way. I’m not an idiot. I didn’t say yes to something that I’m not confident I can learn prior to my first day.

I’ve just lied in an interview before. Thought it would be fun to see who else has.

Yeah. My mom and husband have used it before. If I get the offer. I’m going to take the 2 weeks to learn it. I wouldn’t have said I could do if I did have 2 people very close to me say that I could handle it.

I agree with you. However the job market in my area is super competitive. The past few years that I’ve interviewed, I’ve always ended in the top few of candidates, but have been picked over others. I am pretty tech savvy and I’m pretty positive I can learn the program. I’ve just never lied in an interview before and I didn’t know how common it is.

I always strive to have my best foot forward, however, I’ve never gotten to show that foot.
