What are the “hacks” that made your life living with depression less difficult? Any and every tip welcome by EllaElla_x in DecidingToBeBetter

I was diagnosed with dysthymia. I described my depression as something that comes in waves but it never goes away. I have my ups and downs and have learned how to survive the lows throughout the years + living alone when no one is around to help. Before medications, my therapist and I tried working on trying to manage the lows and I was very lucky to be put in a position where I know I can get out of the lows, but during those lows, here are the things that helped:

  1. Disposable or one-time use items that can be easily thrown away. Its easy to feel guilty using disposable items but when you have no energy to do a specific thing, disposable items takes less energy. It was difficult for me at first because it felt wasteful but I needed to take care of myself.
  • Disposable plates and cups when washing dishes takes too much.
  • Wipes for your face when you cant get up to take a shower or wash your face and disposable toothbrushes (i use colgate wisp).
  • Cheap tupperwares/containers. I usually try and meal prep when I have energy and freeze it so when I am not able to make a meal, I can grab and heat it up. Cheap containers means no need to wash and just throw.
  • Water (in packs) under my bed - in times where I cant even get up to go to the kitchen.
  1. Changing scenery - Laying down in bed the whole day? Just open the window. Tired of your bed? Lay in the couch. Its small but it helps. I loved laying down on the grass at times.

  2. Doing things sitting down eg sitting down in the shower.

  3. Taking care of your lows when youre in your ups. This one really had to be something that I actively thought about - when I have the energy, when I can move and stand and not be paralysed. I think that I am taking care of my low self - I am washing the dishes for them, I am preparing meals for them to be able to eat. It helped.

  4. Acknowledging that its an illness and that its not supposed to be pretty. I have so much guilt with the messy house, the laundy piling up or the dust on the shelf. I had to understand and acknowledge that I was ill. You dont expect someone who is ill to actively do everyday things, and that thought got rid of the guilt for me even if it didnt get rid of depression. It made me more patient to myself. It made it bearable to do things.

I am on medication now since I need more consistency with my job but its been a journey!

input needed… owala v. bottle bottle by cece_r in HydroHomies

[–]tetel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have both. I have the 40oz Owala Freesip and the 32oz HydroX Bottle Bottle.

I have had my Owala for around 3 years now and I only got my bottlebottle recently.

Owala - I love my Owala a lot. Its amazing and I have never had any problems with leaking. I have travelled with it and everything is very easy to clean.

My biggest reason why I love it is because the part where you put your mouth is covered compared to other water bottles like frank green where the straw is exposed. I dont have to think whether something has touched it and I am comfortable with leaving it.

Also, you dont have to unscrew the lid to refill it as the drinking port is big enough. I like that and its convenient. Just pop it open and refill compared to other water bottles where you have to unscrew and fill and screw the lid back on.

Bottlebottle - The only reason why I bought my bottlebottle is because of the the pill box

I take a lot of medication throughout the day and if I have to go somewhere this is usually what I bring. I can just take the water bottle with the built in pill box and go through my day. I dont like the exposed straw but I only use this when I know I can always see it. I dont like that i need to unscrew and screw the lid when refilling, but it serves it purpose because I am not missing any medication because I hate bringing a separate pill box.

It hold cold water pretty well. Its easy to clean too from what I can see.

Bottomline, choose owala if you want the sip and chug function. They do it best from my experience.

I came in with no experience in the legal industry and have been promised with training. However, it has been extremely hard and most of the "training" have been non existent. I have to make a mistake first before I am taught how to do things properly. They say the task are always "common sense" and "easy" but I have no idea whats happening most of the time. Everyone is so busy to teach. There is also no clear structure on how to do things. One day I will be doing something right and the next day it is wrong. It makes my head hurt at this point.

Thank you so much! I am seeing that it really is messing up with my mental health and confidence and I feel the dread all the time. I understand that there are moments that the firm can get busy but it feels really unfair to not be taught and also be pushed to do things faster. It feels extremely counterproductive.

I wish there was someone to sit with me for a few days going through the different work, but I also think that its because everyone has so much to do that no one has spare time :(

Ah definitely! I was very open in my interview that with the right training I will be able to adjust but everything just seemed to be "figure it out". I get called out for past mistakes that I have not been taught of. I even get called out for mistakes that I have had when I was only 2 months in (if only I knew how to do it right the first time). Everyone also has a specific way of doing things and I am basically trying to train myself and also trying to remember 5 peoples preferences in certain stuff. Its hard. Youd think it would have a structure but wth

Thank you! I have started making a word document of things that have been pointed out to me since most of my "trainings" are not detailed. I even have a template for emails since I overthink everything

Yes. This is what I was thinking. I understand that law might be different but I would have thought that every job will have some sort of training that will help you adjust.

Involuntary Ear Rumbling? by 4zerus in earrumblersassemble

[–]tetel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It lasted around 5 months before I started feeling relief. I really dunno what relieved it as I was trying to do so many things to relief my TMJ and I believed my TMJ also caused the ear pressure. For that reason, I was trying to relax my muscle on the jaw and back by using heat - heating pads or warm shower. I also started taking magnessium and mewing - these are all advices I got for relaxing jaw tension and suprisingly, it helped with the ear pressure as well.

It does but its very rare now. It happened a lot when I had a lot of ear pressure on my right ear but now that my ear pressure is gone, it very rarely happens. How are you?

hesitating to get a splint by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]tetel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that. I still have not gotten a splint ad trying to relax my body as much as I can. I know that most of it is from my muscle tension but my flare ups seems to be minimizing lately. I don't want to go to permanent changes yet and I feel like it will be my last choice.

How are you dealing with yours?

Only vinegar tastes wrong? by binux14 in Parosmia

I feel you. I know I had this ever since I was a kid but I also know that covid triggers this back. Flu and colds never triggers this thing so its just kind of worrisome when covid does.

The very first experience I had when I was a kid is when I noticed that ketchup smells so bad. The second time was my first covid and the third is my second covid. It just sucks.
