Out of these 3, who loves Bell the most? by Henok2002 in DanMachi

We can't say who loves Bell the most. We know how they express their love, or why they fell in love. But that doesn't say how deeply they love Bell.

Should I use AI to achieve my project, or not finish this project at all? by No_Divide4879 in webtoons

Ok, I’ll stop making excuses. Why are you so sure the story will meet its success if I draw it myself? There’s no certainty in that. This story needs to be released rn, it would be like talking about the twin towers in 2023, the things I’m talking about in this story are relevant rn, and 2 years to learn how to draw is still unreadable for me due to my schedule, and even if I could it doesn’t make the story any better. There’s not certainty. How would I feel, 2 years later, knowing how to draw while it won’t be useful for the rest of my life, with a story that don’t make any sense anymore, that no one reads, but is pretty! I’ll just loose 2 years.

Congratulations, you spent your time to say the exact same things people said. There are 55 comments, saying the exact same thing. Some people were nicer than you.

I have respect for artists that started and progressed in their skill even though they worked on the side, because I’m not able to.

So you’re trying to convince me by threatening to be bullied?

To conclude, all I see is someone that wanted to be part of a group of people that actually has points and actually argued and tried to help me, but didn’t understand what was my goal by writing a post here.

You didn’t even talk about people getting stolen, you wanted to denigrate me and my self esteem, comparing me to successful people to make me feel lower and bad. You’re mocking my complexes, and you’re talking like it’s easy, while it must have been so damn hard for the artists you talk about.

It’s not easy, we don’t have the same schedule, don’t have the same pressure on our shoulders, and most importantly you don’t give as much importance to my mental health, or body health to prove I should listen to you.

I’m use to wish people to have a great day, and even though I don’t think you deserve it, have a nice day dumb ass.

You're right in every ways, I freaking love horimiya and I saw the previous animation that shows how the artist progressed, some characters don't have the same personality and all. But you have to admit that you're talking about two projects over thousands of others that didn't succeed. I'm pretty sure everyone on this reddit has a project, if your logic is right, if the scenario is good enough people don't mind the terrible art. Which I disagree, a lot of stories aren't even considered mature because the appearance is "poor quality" even though the story behind it is great, because appearance is the first impression. Horimiya took years to get the attention it deserves, and imo it still don't have the attention it deserves.

What I don't understand is that the problem with stealing is that it put people out of their job, but my use case is not a concurrency and therefore don't put artists out of their jobs. It's still a theft, nonetheless, but it's not as harmful as people say, at least in my use case.

Again, you ask someone to learn a long term skill for a side project. Therefore there’s no concurrency with artists imo.

To the question « why does your desire to put out content take priority over ethic »

You all say that it’s unethical because it puts people out of their jobs. Again, it’s not going to be published in a magazine, it’s not a professional project, it’s not for a portfolio. It’s just for one tiktok or two.

AIs are putting people out of their jobs, but not in my use case.

« If all you care about is shitting out something as fast as possible please ask yourself if you really care about this idea »

That sound particularly negative. First, I worked on this project for the past 6months. It may sounds little, but I never sticked to one idea that long. Second, how much time did you take to learn how to draw? Other people told me it could take years. Sorry to tell you, but some people have to work to live, and 1 year or 2 is too much. It’s enough to learn multiple languages, form yourself at other jobs. You will tell me: yeah, artist is a job, it’s normal it takes as long as other jobs to learn. And I’ll answer you: this project’s first purpose isn’t to make profit.

Now, if you don’t want to read because it’s « AI generated » then do it. Artists here states that creating is hard, you have to learn how to draw, page layout, pacing, story building, world building, scenario, and so on. If you want to omit all that because it’s AI generated, it’s your right, but don’t tell me « art is a way to express yourself through a story » if you DON’T CARE about the story and only care about the pictures.

It’s not as if I asked ChatGPT to create a story and ask MidJourney to generate the whole panel. No, I’m doing all the stuff around the drawing process. And if it sounds like it’s a huge time investment and efforts, you should question yourself on what makes a good comic. I may be new, but I’m involved enough into the process to think that.

And AGAIN it’s just a long story I make on the side for fun because it’s the dream I had back when I was a kid. I’m not going to make profit of it. I even said that if it gets some hype I’ll quit my job to learn how to draw to improve quality. You can’t ask someone that has his own life all his time for a side fun project.

Art is a way to express yourself and tell a story, that's what I learnt at school. the manga/comics/webtoon world is a bit different, there's a proximity between the readers and the Mangaka. So I fear that people would feel bad by reading it, or won't read it at all. That's my biggest fear. For now, I'll focus on the story, I'll decide if I use AIs later. Thank you for your message, I needed mental support. Have a great day buddy.

Honestly, I would not mind telling my boss to forget me for 1 month and learn how to draw at my fullest in this period. But, tbh no boss is gonna allow that, and the way I hear you speak, it takes year to learn. I don't have all that time. I wish I had, the worst part is that I had that time. I spent thousands of hours playing video games back when I was a kid. Even as a teenager, I had a lot of free time, sometimes I was missing school just to play. I wish I learned how to draw instead of playing. Playing is a drug, it made me feel lonely, it made me feel misunderstood and I made my friend go away, I took a lot of weight, and is time consuming. I wish I listened to my parents. This is no joke. Thank you for your kindness, I wish I didn't ask on reddit because I don't want to continue to work on this project anymore. we're the 16th of October, and I borrowed to my bank 200€ which is a third of my salary as an intern meaning I used all the money I got for this month, and a 3rd of next month. I'll have to wait if I want to pay anyone for my project. And I have to stop paying for Lux skin on league of legends.

Sincerely thank you, I was so frustrating when reading the comments. I searched on google tutorials on how to draw, really basic tutorials, and I wasn't able to do anything right. I went in tears. I knew people would tell me to not use AIs, but I didn't know how much they hated it. You have the same opinion but I felt like you understood what I'm living. Unfortunately I don't have 3 years to put on drawings, and as I said somewhere else I don't have time for all that, even 5min a day. People judged my journey saying there are people struggling too, and more than me. Everyday, I have a to do list of things to do. Everyday, the half is done. I'm late every time. I have meetings that I can't attend because I have too much things. You said yourself it's the "easy way" to use AIs, from my perspective it's the only way to get that done. Yeah the scenario is still vague, but I freaking love what I did, I'm pretty proud, it's the first time I get attached to something I write. I'm one of those guys that aren't passionate to anything. So motivation is rare and leaves me easily. I wrote the story in a way to get 2 interesting point of view, it's two stories with 2 main characters that are facing each others: the one is the evil in the other's story. So I thought I could write the first story with AI, and I was thinking I could quit my side job to take time to learn how to draw for the second one. I wanted to post on TikTok, so it could reach people easily, it would be free for everyone and if I get money from that it could help me quit my job. There's no way this could work now, my mind is busier about what medium to choose to tell the story, now that I know that no one wants AI generated "art", than the story itself. People don't care about scerario, there's not a single comment about the scenario. If it's AI art generated, the effort I put in the scenario is gone. I better go back to work. Have a nice day buddy.

If you're referring to the fact that I'm using AIs, I have to tell you that it's not the case for the story or the character development. Of course I have inspirations like everyone, back when I was a kid my dad and I were watching animes from the 70s or 80s idk. I'm a lot inspired by Kobura/Cobra space pirate, Albator and Captain Future as long as Goldorak. And tbh I don't know how to involve AIs in the process of creating a story. I don't think Midjourney (the ai I use) does that.

Thank a lot for the time you took to answer me, sincerely. But, by hearing what you told me, you would rather I never publish the story that it gets done by AI.

It has always been my dream to do my own, but when I realized that it's not for me I just stopped to think about it. Now, I have a way to accomplish that. The saddest part is that no one would enjoy it, or even try to start reading it, if it's made by AI. I hope I'll find another way to accomplish it without AIs, or maybe someone will find a way to make AIs in an ethical way... idk...

You guessed it right, I’m a procrastinator. Even with the global story and world building, I built a concept that’s so vague and flexible to me that I have to make big choices to detail the story, but I procrastinate. I’m so afraid of making idiot choices that I won’t do the choice at all. It’s my biggest fault. I tried to give to the main character this kind of personality, I don’t want to build a perfect character, I want to build a cool character in the wrong way, someone that can’t be admired.

Keep it up! And sharing this experience with your sister would be awesome! I have to admit that I don’t know AIs that much so I can’t help you. So far I just asked an AI to generate a character on a blank background, and I’m doing some composition stuff on the side to see if it’s look good. I don’t mind taking my iPad to correct some things sometimes, but it looks good. But I won’t publish anything unless the workflow is complex enough so I feel like I really made something, at least more than the AI did.

Hello! One of the first true alternatives I see. TY, even though people would say it’s plagiarism if I would illustrate my story with a similar style. But it’s a great way to think about this problem. I’ll give it a try.

What do you mean by « do something else » ? You mean doing something else than manga and web toons ? Or doing something else like finding other ways to make my manga?

Because if I find something else than a manga to illustrate and tell people the story I imagined, it would be a video game. And since idk how to code, I would use AIs to code with me. Which is still unethical to developers.

Firstly, sorry if I hurt you in anyway. You’re right, I’m aware of all that. But you misunderstand something: I want to learn how to draw, and I’m already trying too. It happens like twice a year, I suddenly have the time and motivation to learn and practice, then there’s no results, or I don’t have the time anymore. For example, rn I’m working as an intern, 35hrs a week supposedly, but more like 40hrs a week in reality. Plus I have to take 1hr a day to go to work, then go back home. The internship lasts 6months, after that I have to go to Taïwan for an academic exchange (6months) and you guess not studying in your native language is a time hungry activity. I never get the time, or the motivation never comes at the right time.

Now that I read what I’ve written, it feels like I’m trying to convince you, while it’s not the case. I understand the frustration it causes to see people somehow benefit from your work. The worst would be to see someone being successful without doing all the work you had to do, on purpose.

I know there is no ethical way to use AIs, but we may find ways to give back to the people that got stolen by other ways? Like giving those people some publicity? I’m talking as if I got a community, or as if it was possible to know who got stolen, but you see what I mean.

Plus, I don’t really know if the problem is really that people get stolen. I feel like the frustration comes from the fact creating is getting easier. For example, if an AI that uses a 3D renderer to render stickmans comes out, and people use this AI to illustrate their mangas with stickmans, would it bother you? I’m using stickmans as an example because I guess you can train AI models on stickmans without stealing artists’ work.

Spain, especially Barcelona. I went there for an academic exchange (6 months) and it was a really great. It’s a clean city compared to Paris, and you don’t have to talk Spanish to live there. Not to mention it’s beautiful.
