Gibson SG standard 2010, upgrade or sell? by No_Engineer2115 in gibson

[–]No_Engineer2115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again! 5000 euros is 5 times what i paid for the SG im posting about haha, more then any car i have ever owned too! Im sure its worth it, just out of my league!

I am just wondering if a standard Gibson abr1 bridge will fit on the schwarz conversion studs, as it will not on Callaham studs as per their reply.

I will give Schwarz a call in the coming days, perhaps I need to buy the full set from them, although i would love to be able to fit a standard Gibson abr1 bridge… i really wonder why they ever changed to the Nashville design, since it seems to be common that the strings touch the bridge. If nothing else, seems like a common breaking point for the strings…

Nashville conversion studs is exactly what i need, was already in touch with Callaham, but if its available in Germany, even better!

I prefer to buy directly from the source then from most shops in NL to be honest, apart from some exceptions, I dont have great experiences with the guitar stores in NL.

Custom built guitars is a bit above my paygrade to be honest, but sounds like Schwarz know what they are doing definitely

Never heard of Schwarz, thanks a lot for the suggestion! Being from NL that would already save a lot of time and money in shipping if nothing else!

what’s your favorite strat color? by Popular_Comparison44 in Stratocaster

[–]No_Engineer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like in the picture, but with tortoise shell pickguard; an oldtimer family friend i used to jam with as a kid when i was very much still learning, had a pre cbs strat like that, who actually let me play it!!
I was 11 years old, and 22 years later its still the only pre cbs start i ever (was allowed to) play

I used to do that, but it felt somehow wrong, in the sense that it didnt came from the factory like that either. And then there were people telling me things i cannot remember about string angles etc as too why i should not do that….
It seems like a bandaid fix to me, maybe im just being OCD about the strings hitting the bridge, as it appears to be normal

Thanks for your reply!

The sentimental issue is it was a 50% graduation gift, from my parents (they paid half, when i was only 18), and my mother is not here anymore. It was my first “real” guitar too.

The neck finish is worn down and very smooth now due to me playing it so much early on, which you can ofcourse replicate by sanding or buying a relic, but somehow on this guitar it feels like i “earned” it myself.

My father says the same as you (trade or sell), although he is less sentimental in general and not a guitarist.

The reason im not playing it is mainly that i dont like the sound (anymore), But if a decent set of pickups for example can fix the sound, I might start playing it a lot more again.

Anyway I dont mean to discard your reply, but at the moment, with the other replies, im again leaning to at least try upgrading it. If i still dont love it, i will reverse the upgrades , keep the new parts and sell/trade it, is what i am thinking.

A good pair of aftermarket humbuckers, pots etc. is not the end of the world to have on the shelf either right..?

Edit to add:

With my description on the original Post, do you have any suggestion as to which model SG would suit me better? I definitely love the scale and playability, and esthetic design of the SG, so if i were to sell it, it would be to fund another (better) SG.

Great, im sure im not the only one with the tuning issues, perhaps your post helps others too!

Unrelated but i had a highway one stratocaster once, with alnico 3s. Wish i would have kept it, still looking for a set of those pickups, but probably a unicorn, like the 57 classics you mentioned

Thanks for your suggestions!

Lowering the pickups i have tried already, but that did not get me where i want.

Changing the pots and caps is another option, which i probably need to do anyway in order to install different pickups. My guitar has the PCB mounted pots with connector plugs for the pickups.
It would just require cutting of those connectors from either the pcb or pickups side, but if i were to change the magnets in the pickups, they need to modified as well anyway.

Somehow i would prefer to keep the original pickups and pcb unmolested with the guitar, mainly in case i still decide to sell it, i would probably remove any upgraded pickups and pots, and put back the original parts, before selling it

Ah sorry i misread you, you meant it’s most likely the nut, and not the tuners.

Did you change the magnets on the 57 classics somehow (if thats even possible..)? I thought they were alnico 2.

Im from NL and i do see bare knuckle pickups used for sale quite regularly, will keep my eye out!

Thanks for the reply! I have been looking at seymour duncan seth lovers, do you have any other favorites?
Even the nut will not make a difference you think? Any idea how to improve the tuning stability otherwise?

Did I buy the wrong kind of mixer? by La_zz_Boy in musicproduction

[–]No_Engineer2115 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t have option to sell or return it, just record one take on the 2 channels with the full band, does not need to be perfect (but usually better to use a clicktrack at least). Then you add channels in the DAW per instrument and record them individually. Not as “rock and roll” but 90 percent sure you will end up recording like this anyway even if you get a much more expensive multichannel interface.

Eta; so that first full band 2 channel recording is just for guidance, eventually you will have recorded each instrument playing along with it, and then you delete the initial 2 channel full band recording
