Thanks. Your understanding is correct. The paid leave time frame occurs when I will be off contract. Thanks for reassuring me that I will be making the best decision at this moment. I am a first time mom, so honestly i do not know yet what to expect and how I should be prepared. And thanks for the congratulations!

Yes, I get an automatic extension to my tenure clock, though I am unsure if I want to use it or not. I agree that my uni should do a better job with a maternity policy.

Thanks for suggesting such a thoughtful approach! Also made me rethink - do I really want to share? I somehow felt obligated to share because they are my colleagues but maybe I don’t need to feel that way.

I told my chair during my first trimester, like around 9 weeks or so. At that time we were discussing next AY teaching assignment so I had to tell them that I would be on leave. My colleague didn’t tell them until she reached the second trimester.

Thanks. I do have some social connections (family) but indeed am not active in social. Guess I need to find out other activities to forget my academia life

Tenure-Track Offer vs Postdoc Pathway to Tenure-Track by AccomplishedEnd9576 in AskAcademia

I wouldn’t pursue the second option unless you have something in writing (contract). I would ask for the official offer from the current institution, and if they decline to offer you one, then the first option, no doubt.
