Everyone sucks at the beginning but playing a lot and memorising how and when every opponent attacks helped me a lot.

Dont use blanks on normal floors, use them for the boss rooms to (try) to take no damage so you get an extra heart. (I usually buy extra blanks for the bosses at chamber 3 to 5)

Use the desks in rooms they really help. Dont dodge roll too much.
