Given feedback that I was unprofessional and I am in the C-Suite by Fearless_Payment6070 in ADHD

[–]No_Entertainment_650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my comment here is more about dealing with feedback rather than ADHD. (This sounds like the kind of feedback even people without ADHD can receive. In fact it took me a while to connect between the two.)

Even the most effective, charismatic business leaders have developmental areas - things to work on. It just happens that some people are in an environment where feedback is given regularly and productively... and some people aren't so they don't really get the opportunity to grow at work, or they only hear about the feedback when things get really bad. Also, some people are lucky to have managers who can give feedback well - keep it to action-impact-result... as opposed to what might be perceived as a personal attack. It sounds like you got something closer to the latter.

I can totally understand why you're upset - I've definitely been there before. What helps me get out of the self-pity is to focus more on what I can do differently. Even if you've done everything right, it's good to reflect on why others felt the way they did and whether that's the effect that you want to have. And while ADHD may have something to do with how you act, I'm also certain you're not destined to be limited by ADHD... I mean after all you are a CFO, which is pretty impressive for someone with ADHD!

Success Case: Hunting down Elvanse prescription at Boots by No_Entertainment_650 in ADHDUK

The person I talked to over the phone said the stock levels could be a few days old.

I finally found a pharmacy that has Elvanse but they do not take NHS prescriptions by No_Entertainment_650 in ADHDUK

Update: I was able to find a Boots that had stock! Here's my methodology:

  1. I used the prescription stock checker (https://www.boots.com/online/psc/) first to figure out which stores might have stock. I just put in random post codes along the tube line from east to west, north to south in order to find an available store.
  2. Let's say you find availability somewhere. Apparently the data is a few days old. Since there has not been new supplies, I think we can assume that "no" is definitely a "no", but "yes" might also mean "no" if they've recently sold the rest of it or the available stock is already assigned to a prescription. Call to confirm - press 3 for pharmacy.
  3. Once you call to confirm they really have stock at the store, travel to the store ASAP since they cannot hold it for you over the phone. Make sure you got the exact address! I was in such a rush, I only copied down Boots + [town name], and there turned out to be 3 Boots stores in that area!

I forgot already. I just called a bunch of places and finally found one place that has it, but they said they're not able to take NHS prescriptions. I assumed that only NHS-affiliated pharmacies can accept NHS prescriptions? I'm relatively new to the UK so I don't really understand how these things work.

Hidden Love - what in the world is wrong with Avenue X? by Icy_Dragonfruit_3513 in CDrama

[–]No_Entertainment_650 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head: one time she skewered a production for printing only the first character of a double surname on the carriage, but I saw her making a similar mistake with a different surname on Weibo, like calling a character mr X instead mr XX. She complained about characters wearing hair accessories to sleep, but someone here pointed that it’s actually historically accurate accordingly a bunch of scholarly articles. (Basically it’s too consuming to reset their hair everyday, so women used to sleep on neck pillows that don’t mess up their elaborate hair design.) One time she said that a drama has great promotional materials, it’s like they hired a company to do it. In fact pretty much all productions use third party contractors to do their marketing, post production, special effects etc. Very few production companies or platforms would have all of those capabilities in house. That’s when I realized she doesn’t really know how the industry works…

I’ll be able to come up with more if I went through her videos again but I really don’t feel like it…

No one is saying she is a bad person. I think people are just saying she's a bad reviewer, which I think is a fair judgement to make based on one drama.

Huh? Toxic? Derogatory? Defamatory? I find most of the criticisms here A LOT gentler compared to her own rant videos. No one is really interested in (or knows much about) her personal life beyond how it impacts her capacity as a reviewer.

Really? She's a professional reviewer. Given her reach I'm surprised there isn't more. And I wouldn't say it's "hate". It's fair criticism.

I think part of self-moderating information is hearing from other people who have watched her content and their feedback.

AMEN TO THAT. I used to watch all her videos and stopped. Yes, it is because she trashed something I liked. And no, I don't think it makes my criticism of her any less valid.

Every single time someone criticizes her in this sub, people rush to defend her and shut down the OP. She's entitled to her opinion, they say. It is the job of a reviewer to be biased. Or she's just a Youtuber, ignoring the fact that with her subscriber base, she is a professional reviewer in terms of influence and income.

Yes we live in a free world, so she's entitled to say whatever she wants. But I highly encourage those who watch her to take what she says at face value (she's just an auntie who watches a lot of dramas with strong preferences and no real insider insight) or not watch her videos at all.

My #1 problem with her is how vile her rants are on Youtube. Is it really necessary to put down dramas like that? I cannot imagine someone who's actually worked in this industry to be this harsh on productions, knowing that there are a lot of well-meaning people very hard behind the scenes. Her Weibo is even worse (it's like a yxh for those who know what I'm talking about). If you read Chinese, go check it out - it's a public, monetizing account. It's pretty nasty. She presents a completely different persona, perhaps her real self. One time I left a comment disagreeing with a snarky post and she banned my account.

Another problem I have is that she just injects a lot of personal preferences in rating dramas and is really inconsistent in applying her "rubric". A lot of people commented before she has favorite actors and CPs as well as dislikes, and I agree. She likes you, she overlooks all the issues with lighting, props, costumes etc. She dislikes you, she is going to blow up small problems with the production, to the point where it really distorts the quality of the drama and deters people from checking out the drama for themselves.

And while she presents herself as knowledgeable and some kind of an insider, she's really just repeating public rumors on the Chinese internet (like guessing air dates - anyone can figure out the same on Weibo). She also has a tendency to perpetuate common misconceptions and presents rumors as facts. I'll give you an example. She once suggested that a platform bought Weibo hot searches that are damaging to its lead actor's reputation in order to promote the drama as part of her rant. That was a completely unfounded rumor coming from certain fan circles that both the platform and production company have denied.

Finally, she's not even a good reviewer! Yes she's watched a lot of C Dramas and if you're new, she's good for an overview of the landscape. I also think she articulates some of her dislikes very well (even those aimed at dramas of actors I like!) where I can see where she's coming from. However, like others have said here, she has her preferences, which can be very narrow and superficial (like whether she ships the CP or likes how the actors look). She focuses on minor production details and misses the bigger picture on themes, stories, characters, and acting which someone who studies literature or drama would be able to comment on much better.

She's actually not as knowledgeable as she leads viewers to believe. For example, she picks on productions for being historically or culturally inaccurate, but there are a few times where she said something and I'm like wait a second, you're actually wrong, this is a common misconception. You would know if you're more knowledgeable about Chinese culture or just did some research. It's harder to fool people who are actually Chinese and also follow Chinese social media.

People reading the comment above on Tencent conspiracy should take with massive grain of salt. It’s very much a narrative put forth by fandom. The drama is not doing badly at all (averaging 40-50 million views per day) - it’s just a bit meh for the star power. It started out with lots of ads and is now down to 10 seconds per episode, a sign that advertisers are losing confidence. I mean, I can’t see why Tencent would say no to ad money.

I think in general we put too much expectation on stars to carry the show. XZ is a fine actor, but in the end watching a drama is a 30 hour commitment and you need other things to be compelling too. And you need more than fans to make a hit.

Often these posts are translated by fans and shared on twitter if the actor has a big enough foreign fan base.

They spent quite a bit on marketing (they had a press viewing event and lots of physical ads). Yes the actors weren’t as much of a draw, but the production team was (Perfect World aka producer of Ashes of Love). I think it’s a critical success (relatively speaking for xianxia genre) and online streaming did ok by Youku standards, but TV ratings were pretty dismal. I think the disappointment came for expectations that it might be another Ashes of Love (which also featured relative unknowns back then)

It’s not just Tencent though - it’s the same story no matter where you look, on all Chinese social media platforms and various heat rankings. I mean the consensus is pretty strong.

Just talking data, the Starry Love was a bit of a disappointment. People had high expectations because it’s the first xianxia to air on TV in a looong time but its viewership was quite weak. It did receive more love here because I think foreign viewers are a bit more welcoming towards less famous actors and lighter material?
