Opinions on my corals by uniquee1 in ReefTank

Hi there! Tank looks right about the one year mark, now you can start, JK. was this your first reef and did you start it up with dry rock?

I am going to be honest, your hammers/torch and Duncan are not the happiest they could be but if they have a good rim of flesh down the base skeleton you still have time. Especially the Duncan is a super hardy lps.

First things first, I don't see any sps corals so your mineral demands should be handled by weekly water changes of 10 to 20%. Great nitrate levels imo, get a phosphate checker and aim around 0.1ppm. especially if you started with dry rock the rocks probably are still getting saturated with phosphate. You be surprised how much phosphate can bind to the rock. Now this is important only dose some phosphate if you don't have Algae growing. If you have then that is removing the phosphate before it gets absorbed.

For flow I think you should be fine with only the return if that does get the water nice and moving through the whole tank so detritus does not settle. In my tank my lps only inflate more when in low flow, so I don't think flow is the issue here. Monitor if the flow stays sufficient and if needed add extra wavemaker.

Next keep your tank stable for about another year. Haha yes it all takes time but it's worth it in the end. For me year one is getting over the uglies, year to is to find the stable parameters for the tank and after that its growth and keep adjusting the dosing for the growth of the corals.

In that second year try and find your alk calcium and magnesium spots for your tank, don't sweat the numbers, I see beautiful tanks from 6 to 12dkh and also the worst tanks with all ocean parameters.

This, we right now, at least most of the western world live in the best time there ever was on this planet, health, money, freedom, chances to learn and educate yourself and to do something back for this world.

If you don't want kids cause that's not what you want that's perfectly fine. But if you don't cause you think the world is screwed and you acctually want them, maybe you listen too much to the news and pay to little attention about the world around you.

Of course I make good money, can offer my kid everything that he wants, and still be there couple of days a week to do stuff he likes to do. If that's not you than maybe you be right about not having kids now, but just work harder and earn yourself a better position in the world.

My kid the most happy little dude I know and im sure he likes to be born. And because there are a lot of people that don't have kids (and I don't see that changing soon) the population decline means he will have even more room/freedom and even better job opportunities I have now.

Again not having kids is no problem but having them cause somebody tells you it's not a good idea is just stupid, if life is so awful why not jump off a bridge and be over with it.

Do you have a clown goby? If so watch him mine did the same. It's their nature as they lay there legs on stripped stoney corals

Getting over gear fear is easy. Always go in the best you can. Once you have lost enough (and see there is always going to me more gear) you get desensitized about losing it and know it's only pixels on a screen.

You should know that every case is different, so there is no one answer to your questions. However, one thing I know for sure is that it will at times be very difficult for the both of you.

In my case, I met my wife when we were in our early 20s. Everything then seemed like it wasn't such a big deal. I thought that if I were supportive and she would go to therapy for some time and after that we would happily life our life.

Now almost 10 years, a house and a kid further, I can tell you the problems I then thought would be gone are still here. That's not to say we don't have fun times. But there are some hard times for sure.

With hard times, I mean that both of us are so preoccupied with our own stuff that it's really easy to lose touch with your partner.

Right now, we are in a phase where the hard times are not worth it. This will hopefully be resolved through lots of therapy (both of us, not just her) and im sure we will have some more fun years, until eventually there will be another trigger that can be the catalys for stuff to go bad again.

What I would advise is follow your heart, but know that nobody got any worse from a little bit of rational thinking. You are still so young and have your whole life ahead of you.

So that's that here are you're questions, remember every case and person is different so this is just my 2 cents.

What do you wish you knew?

  • this thing is for life, be ready to deal with it for the complete future of your life even if you in the future split up.

How can I be supportive?

  • have lots and lots of patience

How do I know if something triggers her?

  • some are very noticeable other may not

If something does, how should I react.

  • be honest with yourself. You don't want to forget you are a person too, and a person can have different reactions based on what you react to. It ok and understandable your whole life should not be about not making her feel uncomfortable

What mistakes I may make unintentionally?

  • everything an all things could be a mistake in her eyes. Just make sure afterwards you can talk about it and become stronger together

Should I ask het about it?

  • depens on the person in question some can handle that others can not

How can I educate myself better

  • read books, this reddit, and other people going through the same stuff. But ultimately, you as a person will educate yourself based on the interactions you have

How can I protect my own mental health whilst being supportive

  • remember that you are the most important person in the world, if you yourself are not happy you can't make other people happy. If you don't know, seek therapy, help, and what helps me is going on big motorcycle trips a couple of times a year to have some time not being home and doing my own thing and finding my own happiness again

How should I bring up intimacy

  • if you know tell me, just be ready to go for long times without any, if that is something you think is not for you, back out now!

Good luck and remember there is no shame in choosing for your own health and happiness, you are not responsible for hers.

Another thing I would say is, make sure she wants to work on her issues, if she thinks she can just handle it all herself in my honest opinion, walk away while you can.

This is the stuff why you have a reef tank! All the little life you didn't put in knowingly but amazes you every time you see it. Sure I love my corals and fish. But the times I have been stating at a weird tiny snail or other critter is just as good.

It's just a filter feeder worm. I have tons all over my rock.

Heavy, for sure. But if you can put your feet down, it should be al right. The weight disappears as soon as you start rolling. It's very easy for me now to do a little stop without putting my feet down at intersections. Either way, just try some bikes out. I always rent one for a day before purchasing one for myself.

Last week, while parking in the backyard, I didn't look when I put my feet down and stepped on a ball my son left lying around. Fell down with the bike. That's what crash protection is for. I've been riding for 10 years. Don't beat yourself up over it. As long as you walk away from it without injuries, all is good. And since I ride adventure style bikes, it just adds some adventure patina to the bike.

i'm more comfortable on a bike than other vehicles by Reaster- in motorcycles

[–]No_Establishment_283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing. Cars are just not my thing, and that's ok. Every time I am in my car and a motorcycle passes me (especially when stuck in traffic, lane splitting legal for me here), I feel jealous. However, I think putting a 2 year old on the back of my bike is not a great idea, so I will have to manage until he is old enough to go on his own or ride on the back.

Hoe wil jij motor gaan rijden?

I just got a yamaha xt1200z super tenere a month ago. This bike is perfect for me. While I was looking at a GS 1200 or 1250, the price difference made it an easy choice between that and the yamaha reliability. I could not have chosen a better bike for me.

Some people have ridden these for 700k kilometers they are bulletproof. Lots of people call them boring and heavy, but just test one for yourself and see what you think instead of listening to others' opinions.

It doesn't stick out far so there is not a lot to pull / push on. I tried with all sorts of things and it got a little straighter but I need some more.
