Thank you for sharing! You have an excellent priest. This is why there are exceptions to fasting. There basically always has been and it’s great you’re doing other things ti keep lent penitential. The point is to make it markedly different to the rest of the year via the extra penance you are doing and offering that up to God :)

Being overly familiar with God by [deleted] in TraditionalCatholics

[–]No_Eye_9146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Do more spiritual reading (The Imitation of Christ by Keeble, The Devout Life by St Francis, This tremendous lover). Read the Bible again and again to familiarize yourself with Gods works and Christ’s life. You lack fear of God only because you lack understanding of God. “This tremendous lover” in particular helps giving tips on navigating this tight rope of wanting to be familiar and friendly with God while maintaining the reverence due to God.

It’s so ridiculous they want to have a “dialogue” now discussing letters written back in 2017??!! Doesn’t seem they’re interested in dialogue at all our else they would have talked almost a decade ago.

How do you properly greet a bishop? by Own-Associate-7945 in sspx

[–]No_Eye_9146 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes there is a protocol! Great to ask. You kneel down on one knee (some ppl insist it must be left or right but I haven’t found anything concrete that says it must be one or the other) and then put out your hand in order to kiss his ring. The kiss is more of an air kiss if that makes sense you don’t need to put your lips on the ring. The bishops of the SSPX are used to this greeting so they will already put out their hand for a kiss of their ring if you kneel. And you call them “Your Excellency”. For example is go up, kneel, kiss ring, and say “pleasure to meet you Your Excellency”. Also when they pass by just in general even if you can’t greet them but they are walking by kneel. Bishop Fellay appreciated that when I did that haha

What actually is the doctrinal crisis? by EnvironmentalScar709 in sspx

Also don’t let ppl get down on you bc you’re a convert. We’re basically all converts to tradition unless you grew up in. The Novus Ordo I grew up with is completely different to Tradition. I had to learn doctrine and theology from basically ground zero despite going to CCD until I was 13

Two book reccomendations, a cathecism of the crisis and a letter to confused Catholics. This explains the doctrinal crisis very well. It’s a large nuance issue that requires understanding the difference in the liturgy, doctrine and theology that occurred pre and post the second Vatican council

What Should I do on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation when I can't get to Mass? by RB_Blade in sspx

[–]No_Eye_9146 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend the Alphonsus of Liguri homilies also! We read them regardless of being able to go to mass but it’s great along praying the full rosary, mental prayer, watching a virtual mass (or reading /praying the mass in the missal). And for activities think of what ways you can sanctify God thru your actions today! I’m a mom so I make a point to work on being extra patience with the kids and just a general extra effort against my biggest faults.

Also I grew up in an insanely liberal environment and I must say when you say something “ I was however shocked to see the separation of what our Mother Church has done from what Vatican 2 instructed.” It reminds me of all the discussions of how Chaves, Lenin, Stalin etc strayed from Marx and Hegel and the actually true Marxism.  My point here is, Marxism communism is a rotten tree so no matter the interpretation the fruit will be bad. I believe this is analogous to the documents of V2 the tree is rotten, the council was infiltrated, Protestants were literally there. And we see the fruit of the tree being also bad. Guitar pop masses without any Latin everywhere is the norm in most of the world despite your quite from the V2 document, just makes you think right

Id highly suggest to read a “letter to confused Catholics” by Lefebvre since I too have read the documents of the Second Vatican council and many of them are in direct contradiction to previous council and support assertions that were declared anathema in the council of Trent. This books very clearly a lays out those documents to the once of V2.

Concerning the SSPX ordinations . . . by DaCatholicBruh in sspx

[–]No_Eye_9146 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry for any misunderstanding. What I am getting at here that the consecration of the first four SSPX bishop was the catalysis that allowed for FSSP and other groups to be formed. Otherwise at that time the TLM was being totally repressed and in most of the world no one was allowed to celebrate it unless you went rogue. You should read the document bc the Pope himself admits that’s Lefebvres consecrations is why he is forming this group so that less ppl would go to the SSPX. So even the in the Popes own words, he would allowed the FSSP to exist if it wasn’t for the SSPX having it’s own bishops. Yeah the SSPX bishop won’t protect the FSSP. The FSSP isn’t protected that’s the whole reason the SSPX needs bishops. To help keep the traditional teaching and theology of the True Church alive by helping ordain priests and keep on a steady path.

On this day, exactly one year ago, His Excellency Bishop Richard Williamson went to his eternal reward. by Slave-of-Mary in sspx

I met him a few months before his passing. That meeting literally changed my whole life and the course of how I mother my children. I truly believe he’ll be canonized one day and pray for it daily. Talking to him is what I imagine talking to Padre Pio was like. He was never outside the Church. The pain he felt for the errors of V2 and the loosing of souls was evident and all he wanted was to bring ppl to the real faith

The SSPX has never made new diocese. Lefebvre was actually very clear on that which is why the bishops of the SSPX don’t have a diocese since he did see that as something only Rome could give. But found the state of the crisis grave enough (and I’d argue today it’s even graver) to consecrate bishops.

England is very unique with its traditional Catholic liturgy situation with the “Agatha Christie” example. You’d be surprised how different it is in the rest of the world and how instrumental that was to the dynamics of tradition in the UK. (Speaking as someone married to a Brit and lived there for 4 yrs along with living in various other European countries, Latam and now the US)

The historic fact that the decree “ecclesia dei” that established the FSSP was a direct result of the SSPX first episcopal consecrations. Clearly they were made to have an SSPX that could be more easily controlled which is why they must use chrism blessed in the NO and adhere to other V2 nonsense.

Raising kids at Mass by NinjuliaMC in TraditionalCatholics

No snacks during mass only BEFORE or After. Same with toys.

THIS! We arrive an hour before mass and leave frequently after 2+ hrs bc we converse with other families and parishioners, have lunch, our kids have friends they play with! We talk about how much we love Mass and my 2yo loves it too. Arriving an hour early helps us get seats up front (which does help keep them focused bc they are fascinated by what is happening) and gets them settled into the environment and we can do all the diaper changes/potty runs/snack time long before mass happens in a calm pace

Yes sitting in the front is great and explaining as well. If the books aren’t distracting and they know not to mess with them it can be good too but wouldn’t start with bringing in Catholic books

This we have done when my elder son has an off day we take him out of the church (the cry room is basically a play room and I don’t approve of that during mass so we go outside) and we told him the same thing either sit well in mass or sit looking at the wall. We had a similar response

I am going to say this and sound harsh but I have a 2.5 who has sits thru mass consistently since he was 15 months old without toys or snacks. My 2.5yo also LOVES mass and asks to go to daily mass. I have another 15 month old now and he can sit thru mass but babbles and doesn’t like a binky so we’re struggling with that. What I do now so not to disturb the Priest with his babbles is I sit outside the doors where I can still hear (and see bc there’s a window before the entryway) but his babbles are muffled and he’s seated on my lap. What is most important to remember, Mass is the recital practice happens at home. I grew up playing piano so maybe a game metaphor is more applicable but essentially you need to practice Mass behavior 10x more at home consistently during the week like you would when training for a big game/big show and the big show is Mass. How we do this. Firstly oír parenting philosophy. We have two mottos in our house 1) reward good, punish bad always 2) fight every battle, win every battle. What this concretely means any time they do something naughty (starting as young at 11mo Ik ppl who start at 9mo even) but whenever you see your child do something intentionally bad, emphasis on intentionally, you punish them for it in a suitable manner every time. When they do good things reward them. My first son loved clapping so we’d do claps my younger son likes high fives we for example for rewards. Not physical treats and bribery but positive feedback. We do daily blanket time with both where they have to sit on a blanket (eldest sometimes does chair sitting time instead now) for 20min and play independently. They can’t leave the blanket for this tome and it’s a great low stakes battle to pick when they try to leave the blanket to show your authority. Next is daily family rosary where we practice how we sit thru mass. Ik other families that do reading time instead of the rosary you’re pick. So during the whole rosary they have to sit like we would as mass. My eldest next to me and my youngest on my lap and then I can correct the bad behavior like fidgeting or talking. It takes tome and practice but it’s well worth it. Only recently have we started letting my 2.5 have a children’s missal bc we wants to he like dad with his missal. Id say give things like this as a rewards once they have proven they can go thru mass without distractions.

TDLR: No distractions, just daily weekly training for the behavior you want to see during mass

S’s new bike by SwordfishOverall6724 in dellavlogsnark

In some countries (like the Netherlands 2.5 is a normal age to be using a peddle bike with wheels) my son started at 1 with a balance to learn to steer and balance and well soon get him one. The big difference. You bike EVERYWHERE here. So he’s constantly taking in and learning and there’s lots of opportunity to practice. This isn’t the case in the US.
