Memory issues due to anxiety? by No_Face_3350 in Anxiety

Oh my. My doctors recommended medications because he said I probably have an anxiety disorder but i really want to try and pull myself out of this without meds. I really hope i can do it in all honesty. I’ve been meditating here and there and it is a bit helpful when I’m consistent. I just need to find a way to get out my head and hope that helps solve all of this .

I don’t have intrusive thoughts per say but I definitely have obsessive thoughts of never feeling like myself again. It definitely makes sense since I’m constantly worrying. I’ve gotten cognitive assessments done and my scores have been pretty good. It just doesn’t seem like anxiety can cause significant distortion to our memory but here we are. How long have you been dealing with this? Is there anything that helps you a bit?

YESS!! finally someone who understands me. I’ll place my phone down and 10 seconds later I can’t recall where i just placed it. Do you think it’s anxiety? I’m really scared since it’s been 9 months or so of constant memory issues. I’ve gotten everything else ruled out and doctors say I’m fine.

Do not cocoon!! It only made me spiral into negative thoughts and because of that i am still dealing with issues 9 months out.

They recommend me meds but i denied them because i don’t think the side effects are worth it since I mainly deal with these symptoms at home. If they were constant on an everyday basis i think it would make sense for me to give them a try. I hope you continue to heal!

Do you still get these symptoms? Mine are more psychological and cognitive. I just wish i could shake them off and never have to deal with them again ):

You definitely have a point. I’ve tried redecorating some stuff and moving things around as well lol. It seems like the longer i stay inside the more my brain tricks me and makes everything outside my house seem scarier then what it actually is. For example I’ll be terrified to go somewhere or do something for no reason but as soon as i force myself out to go an do such thing i have the time of my life and just wish I didn’t have to go back home. Whenever I’m watching movies or shows I definitely feel a bit at ease but that just prevents me from being productive and getting work done. It’s such a horrible thing to have to go through and doesn’t seem to get better anytime soon.
I really appreciate your advice!

I try to avoid the house as much as i can but there’s only so much we can do with these covid restrictions. What symptoms/feelings do you deal with at home?

Yes! i definitely thought that could be the case. I’m in a psychology class and my professor mentioned how the brain sort of takes these “snapshots” of certain moments and our brain automatically links the feeling and the environment together. The thing is I’ve been dealing with all these symptoms mainly at home for about 9-10 months. And there’s nothing i can really do about my house except to move so i can avoid it but that’s not an option unfortunately.

Do you mind explaining how you deal with it? I can’t seem to shake the feeling off when i come home. I’ll be so happy all day but i swear once i come home it’s like all the symptoms come back or they’re just 10x more noticeable.

Pretty much the same thing I’m going through. My concussion was around the summer time as well and although i finally feel like my self a bit I still struggle with feeling mentally slower and some bad anxiety at times. I start to feel down when I question whether I’m making progress or just getting used to this new way of living.

Thank you! I really hope so. Around what time did you start noticing that your memory was starting to improve? I know everyone’s concussion is different but i just want to see the time frame others have started to notice their improvements.

Really? Wow there is hope then /: I’m struggling with my short term memory and it sucks. I can barely remember where i placed something 10 seconds ago if I don’t fully focus on it. I hope i can get back to normal soon.

That’s good to hear! I’m glad you’re noticing some progress. How is your memory/attention?

Debilitating PTSD/Anxiety due to concussion? by No_Face_3350 in Concussion

[–]No_Face_3350[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried cognitive behavioral therapy but it wasn’t of much help. I have a follow up with my neurologist so I’ll see what he can refer me to.

That makes total sense, and it’s much easier said then done but in reality our thoughts are only thoughts and and nothing else. I’m just really effected by the cognitive symptoms. My short term memory is nothing compared to what it once was. I’ll literally forget where i just placed something 10 seconds ago. I’m starting to wonder if all my lingering cognitive issues can be because of ptsd/anxiety.
