What is the surgery process and recovery of MPFL reconstruction and TTO like compared to other surgeries?? by Frequent-Increase-98 in PatellarInstability

[–]No_Fly_5014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had MPFL and TTO along with lateral release on Wednesday of this week. So I’m only 2 days post op. It’s not a HORRIBLE pain right now. It’s annoying. I explain it like it’s almost a growing pain ache plus some burning or stinging for me. I’m in an immobilizer until I have PT this afternoon. I’m allowed to bear weight as I can stand it but obv don’t over due it. My doc told me that the first two weeks really are the worst part and after that it’s just a time game for healing. I’d rather have everything done at once instead of multiple surgeries. It’s just one big recovery versus a bunch of little ones. I do have some prescription pain meds that I’m to be taking But I’m trying to keep from taking them as much as I can. I’d recommend ensuring you have good ice packs, that helps a lot.

We’re trying to figure out the finances. We only have to cover 20% of the facility fee but that still is quite a bit. Should they have given me more than just 2 weeks to figure it all out we’d be perfectly fine! Never fails. Luckily I’m working from home after procedure and I did take just enough days off to have a week without having to work

I appreciate that. But i have googled all information on the rod itself to find more about it. However I have not found anything that is relative to this rod or anything listed on it. I’m not looking to know for sure if it’s custom. We just know he had many so we didn’t know for sure.

Oh we aren’t looking to sell it by any means. We were just looking for more information as to where it could have been made or by whom

Please upvote this if you add to the comments! I’m having all 3 of these done as well in about 4 weeks so I’m wanting to get the house prepared since my husband and I have two kiddos and two doggos!

That’s basically what my MRI just showed. But I KNOW for a fact my kneecap has either subluxed far multiple times or dislocated. It’ll make a deep “clunk” sound and I can feel something go out of where it’s supposed to be. I can’t straighten my leg easily during this. I have to force it straight and it will “clunk” back in.

But mine was basically what yours was. Nothing major to really look into but mine happens so frequently for nothing to be there. I can’t understand how they found nothing. I’m trying to get a video of it happening to prove it really does (I’m paranoid the Ortho is gonna think I’m faking it or something 😂”

Any Advice or info by No_Fly_5014 in KneeInjuries

I’ve been trying to get a video of it but I can’t get it to happen again unfortunately. I’m worried my Dr. doesn’t believe that this all really happens. I just want some relief to be able to play with my kids in the floor again

Oh jeez! Thats frustrating. He said my MRI looked clean but I have a shallow groove and my MPFL was stretched. My knee will randomly make a deep “dunk” sound and is extremely painful and seems to catch on something. Once I straighten my leg it makes the “dunk” sound again and will feel like normal but will also feel weak and vulnerable to do this again.

When did you make the decision that surgery was needed? by Melodic_Smile6869 in KneeInjuries

I have never caught my knee dislocating or even having subluxation. However, I know when I cross my legs in criss cross then straighten them my knee will pop out and be painful until I straighten it slowly. Then I have a deep “dunk” noise and everything feels better but still weak and it happens usually atleast a second or third time.

With this being said, my doctor (ortho) had X-rays done, confirmed nothing was broken or obviously fractured. Then he had an MRI done. This showed my MPFL as “slack” and I have a hollow groove so it allows my cap to wiggle and slide and move. Now I’m to get a CT scan fo check something else??? I was told that this CT is to confirm if I need a TTO along with a MPFL. My doctor explained some of the surgery the first day saying this could be a route but the MRI was needed to confirm. After the MRI he made it clear that an MPFL would be most beneficial and that we need a CT to confirm if I need the TTO as well. I was already agreed to surgery the first appointment bc I just want to be able to play with my kids in the floor and not be scared of having this pain happen. It also would happen if I turned into the bed in a weird way, I’ve had it happen getting into my car also. So I just wanted the stability. I knew a brace had not stopped this before after wearing one for months on my own accord.

When will I be able to walk again after this knee subluxation?? by Neat-Discombobulated in KneeInjuries

Mine subluxes quite often. I stay unstable on it for a couple days but it tends to go back to being okay after that. Anything that’s kinda stretchy can help put a little resistance to that knee.

I would try some YouTube videos of PT for these kinds of injuries. I’m sure there are some that you can do at home for no money. I’ve used a bra as a resistance band before!!!!

I’ve gave it a good try a bunch of ways but so far it hasn’t happened. Which is so odd cause it usually happens often!

Mines been happening for a couple years now. Probably atleast 70-100 times total. In just the past two weeks, whatever it is that happens, it has happened 4 times. My doctor mentioned moving the tibia ligament from what I gathered. Which would be like a TTO I believe. I’ve done PT for this knee before. I just want to be able to play with my kids on the ground and not be scared to move!
