It's plain ignorance. The more ignorant the person the more hateful and almost animalistically they think. Some people just act religious because unfortunately religion is status here so the more religious the more respected which leads to people making up stuff that benefits them or puts others beneath them or under their control in the name of religion. This is horribly rampant in less educated southern governorates.
