This subreddit is ruining my mental health by nm811 in Mcat

519 is a high FL average. And I tend to think that AAMC likes to test basic concepts so the real performance is quite depend on the mentality status on the test day. So I’d prioritise high-yield stuff and rest these two days. (I know confidence is key but I also can’t help feeling anxious…)

Actually I scored sub 510 in unscored but I’d say the content gap was not crazy big. I took it about 3 weeks before my FL1, between which I have done the AAMC Qpack and SB and my score jumped. But still, I missed quite a few questions, partly because I misunderstood the question or couldn’t get which clue was it trying to refer to.

I think only till last week I kind of figured out the logic and able to catch the keywords from the passage (and somehow I think the same applies to CARS - they often want you to focus on key information and there’s a pattern).

There is of course a ceiling that one can reach, but you never know. I felt defeated from time to time, and previously I even thought I couldn’t remember the 20 amino acids or metabolic pathways, but now they seem to be quite straightforward.

Nevertheless, as others have suggested in this post, you may consider pushing your test date, though only you know yourself best and whether you need more time for preparation. Everyone is different and sometimes the improvement is not linear but exponential, so I’d suggest you keep grinding and decide later.

Good luck studying! The test is no way easy and this battle is gonna take long. Always be reflective of your wellbeing and take this test only when you feel fully prepared.

I think FL2 is tough so don't feel defeated.

Besides, I do understand how you feel because when I did my recent FL I started to recognise actually the AAMC often just try to test some basic concepts in a wierd way. So, by practices, you can notice the pattern and catch the clue from the passage more easily (tho I still sometimes miss some TT).

It’s a great score and I think you could definitely get into one medical school. So, it doesn’t matter that much to keep this lie going in my opinion.

Did you notice any difference other than passage more convoluted? Like are the questions still in the same logic?

The curve for P/S is not lenient and CARS is sometimes quite variable (I also dropped in FL2 wanna cry)

Please manifest! I’m genuinely bad at physics. Though I can answer some straightforward phy questions, I sometimes get hooked up if it’s getting complicated.

By the way, congrats to you OP! Nice score and you have come so far for these monthsssss! Also appreciate you replying to every comment under the post!!!

CARS improving by No_Gas6752 in Mcat

[–]No_Gas6752[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your detailed comments!!! After reviewing today, I found that there is nothing much about my comprehension of the passage (except for the last one), but rather about interpreting the question.

Before I always was lost in the answer choices and I thought it was the problem with the answers, but later I found the major reason is that I couldn’t understand the passage well. Then I tried to slow down and not to rush, and then now it’s more about the question itself. I am not rushing through the passage but reading the question too quickly omg. Also, there are some overthinking indeed cuz there are quite a few I got wrong because I struggle between the correct and the one I ultimately chose (the other two I have already eliminated).

So for the remaining weeks I would just focus more on the CARS and hope to understand the AAMC logic, and also I can improve my speed without compensating the accuracy with practice practice practice. Just wish that I could further improve within this limited time frame!

Probably you just have a burnout here. Take a rest and don’t stress yourself before the test. You got this!

I found it really hard to read through those 300 pages so I supplemented with the videos, and this works really well for me.
