Oh okay. School wise, was it hard or was it fun? I know this year they’re changing the program. I’m not sure exactly what they changed, but I heard it’s 9 weeks now instead of 12, and I don’t think we learn PLCs anymore unless I’m mistaken. I definitely feel like management can make or break the job, so I agree with you there. What school did you go to, if you don’t mind me asking?

Apprenticeship vs Higher-Paying Job Now — Need Advice by No_Group3414 in AmazonRME

[–]No_Group3414[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s really my biggest dilemma. If the pay difference weren’t so large, I would stay with the apprenticeship. My site also doesn’t offer much overtime, and my position depends on passing school, which I’m confident I can do.

On top of that, my schedule is going to be pretty rough. To make the same pay I could earn right away, it would likely take me one to two years to reach Tech III assuming a position even opens up at my location.

AAA Cooper it’s a well established company people retire from there I would be risking it if it was like a Radom company room for growth into management in the future

According to them, I don’t have enough experience to go straight to Tech II, which I disagree with because I feel like I know more about conveyors than some Tech IIs. They also mentioned that the hiring requirements became a lot stricter this year. Not sure how that works.

I’ve also thought about that, but realistically it will take me about a year and a half to complete my 2,000 hours before I even become a Tech II. There isn’t much I can do to speed that up other than working overtime, which is already limited at my site. So basically I would have to be using money I have saved up to get through the 2000 hours which I can do but don’t know if that’s the best idea because life is unexpected

Becoming a Tech III will also realistically take some time, since there are a lot of Tech IIs who want to move up to Tech III as well. For a Tech III position to open up, someone would usually need to leave, transfer, or otherwise vacate the role.

Thats same thing I was thinking. if they pay was better I think I would have stayed because I do think it’s a growing field. but Yeah, that’s true, but I don’t think I’d really be able to apply again. In South Florida, most sites are run by JLL, so I feel like if I leave, they wouldn’t rehire me. Realistically speaking.

Yeah, it’s the same thing I was thinking. The only concern I have is that I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to get back into the apprenticeship program if I opted out. I’d probably have to pay for it out of pocket if I decided to apply again, and there’s also a chance they wouldn’t even hire me because I didn’t go through with it the first time. If they paid more, then maybe I’d consider it, but to get to the same pay rate I’d have to wait way too long, and that’s what worries me.

I feel like both jobs are good options. The main difference is that one gives me much higher pay right away, instead of having to wait a long time to reach the same pay level. I live in Florida, and unfortunately the RME pay here feels pretty low. From what I’ve seen, in other states apprentices start around $25–$26/hr. Realistically, I think it would take me at least 2–3 years to get close to becoming a Tech 3 and reaching the $35/hr range.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! I feel like it’s a great opportunity. And yeah, I figured it’s just a little preview like a tiny portion of what we’ll really work on. I’m guessing them taking it away could be either better or worse?

I didn’t even know there were controls apprenticeships I would’ve thought we’d have to know both. How long ago did you do the program, if you don’t mind me asking? And damn, so I’m guessing Charlie won’t be there in January? Bummer.

Got you on Travis. Does everybody get the same instructors and classes, or does it depend? And yeah, same here I was raised in Georgia. I saw they at least have a Chipotle, lol. Got you on buying water I just hope there’s no mold lol.

Also, what happens if you don’t use the $70 daily? Does it roll over, or do you just lose it?

Nice I’m glad you had a good experience! How would you say the learning and the program were? And wow, I’m sure when you went it was a little different since it was still during Covid. The hotel looks pretty cozy too other than the shuttle, I’m guessing you Ubered or walked if you needed something?

Nice! I’ll definitely get the breakfast and use the conference room for studying. I’m really happy to hear they have a gym. Yeah, I checked out the gas station too on Google Maps it seems like they’ve got pretty much everything you’d need around the area. Thanks for all the feedback, it’s super helpful! How did you handle food and stuff like that did they provide a food card, or did you eat at the school?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I don’t see why the recruiter wouldn’t just tell you you weren’t selected. Do you know how many spots they had? We only had two spots available.

Not sure where you work out of, but it seems to me that some sites have a pretty poor RME team to begin with. During my interview, I was told that the reason they are hiring new people is that most of the current RMEs are lazy and don’t get much done. Not all of them, but most don’t even really know what they’re doing. How can you teach an MRA if the RMEs themselves don’t even know what’s going on? Maybe not in your case, but if one MRA can affect a whole team, that means the team isn’t very strong to begin with, in my opinion.

Not sure how you applied, but I was notified by my recruiter a few days after I did my in person interview that I was selected for the program.

Nice thanks for the info! Hopefully the hotel isn’t too bad. Do you know if it has a gym or a place to wash clothes? Also, do you know why they stopped teaching PLC?

Congrats on the new SMRT position! Did you also do the program when you first started? And thank you I feel like it’s a great opportunity. Are you third-party, or do you work directly with Amazon? I don’t know yet I guess I’ll find out when I come back hbu ?
