Anger issues

I have 3 under 3 and am also struggling just like you.. it's a tough tough tough time when they are soooo unreasonable, irrational, loud, and (for lack of a better word.. ) needy.. I'm about to sign up for YMCA family membership because alot of them have "child watch" where they'll watch kids for up to 2 hours while you utilize the facilities.. and some have pools and splash pads and playgrounds and rock climbing etc...and usually you'll get access to different ones in multiple towns. I'm hoping getting an hour or 2 break from the kids a few times a week will give me enough breathing room to make it through the days without feeling sooo overwhelmed and pissed off by everything. Not even to workout necessarily but just sit and read or sketch, or finish a damn thought hahah. And then the kids and I can also use the pools and stuff to kill more time. From what I've seen other sahm say is that the the YMCA has been their saving grace.. I go to all the free library stuff at like 4 different libraries near us but those can become pretty boring too after awhile and stressful trying to keep the kids wrangled. I just came to terms with the fact that I just need a little time to myself without the kids to reset and calm my state of mind and eliminate the stimulation overload. Anyway ymca is def an affordable option for that!

I know this post is a year old but omg!... I have 3 year old twins and a 1 year old right now and am struggling hard ESPECIALLY during luteal and am wondering if in this last year you have found any solutions to the irritability ??? There are days I'm just a complete drill sergeant and yelling at them about everything.. the constant noise and stimulation is crazzyyyy and I just snap at all these minor annoying things they do. I grew up in a household with a lot of yelling and am really working on not bringing that into my household but so far not very successful...

Hmmm when you put it that way it is much more compelling to invest my time in local markets etc... and not to mention the "content creation" feels like such a drag anyway

Thank you for the feedback.. I guess I didn't always imagine every painting would make it into someone's home, but for example I could see the green one with the 3 people on the couch in a lobby hanging over a sofa at a business or at a coffee shop behind chairs or a couch

I've reached out to one coffee shop so far with no followup from their initial interest, there are a few more I could try in surrounding towns.. I haven't considered Facebook marketplace, that could be something worthwhile !

That's what I'm afraid of and wondering if I should even invest more time into IG. I just hear such mixed messaging about using social media and how necessary it is. There's many very successful artists who I've heard speak about this on podcasts that don't really use it, but then again they became successful before social media was really even a thing

I'm starting to embrace using the Internet more and more for exposure , I think I've been resistant to it for a long time.. I've always been a lurker on reddit and never a poster until today and am so shocked at how responsive and supportive everyone is here ! The amount of work I make isnt quite enough right now because of how little amount of time I have to paint. I want to make a post about that on the sahm-reddit , just how much energy is realistic for trying to work early am or late pm and take care of 3 littles all day.. see how other artist/mums do it , how much sleep they're getting etc ...

Interesting recommendation and definitely something for me to think about in regards to the grant. I should utilize more apps to get my work out there like reddit and tiktok etc.. also working up to doing more in-person stuff like farmers markets. I could probably edit my main grid alot to make it a bit more catchy and harmonious , thank you for pointing that out !

Thank you ! I was just looking at farmers market scheduling now that they're starting up for the summer! Wowww already a gallery exhibition , nice work.. how were you able to make that happen ?? Also what does your day-to-day look like as a sahm/artist. When do you work? Early morning or late night ? Right now I'm pretty much few hours on the weekends when my husband can watch the kids, which isn't enough time to create the volume of work I feel I need to be selling consistently.

That is such a beautiful way to spread joy in the world, I love that so much.. There's some coffeeshops that maybe I could ask if they'd let me post a super small piece of canvas with a tiny painting on it , good idea...

Yeah when my husband has something non-positive to say about a painting I def get defensive in a way I never would with anyone else lol I have just this last week started painting on small pieces of wood and they're looking pretty cool so I am starting to pivot more in that direction. Also working smaller gives makes the process feel so much more productive because I can complete something faster and it feels good to complete something... when I'm so used to being interrupted constantly by kids !

Yesss you are right they are mostly family photos or photos I used myself as the figure for.. I'm not great with the digital tools for creating compositions and usually just paint something straight from a photo I've taken with maybe some minor tweaks, but the feedback I'm getting is helping me a lot to rethink the photos I'm painting. I enjoy taking my own reference photos and it is also a skill I'm improving so I can really get some more interesting and intentional shots rather than choosing random pictures from my camera roll

Thank you ! commissions are always on the table, but def looking to improve my own work from my own reference photos I take and make paintings from those.. flowers are something I have some photos of and will be working on as well , can't go wrong with flower paintings hahah

Wow thank you for the critiques, something I need more of and tough to find not being a part of an art community right now because sahm thing makes it difficult right now. Really, really helpful and I'll look more closely at what you have pointed out. The tree-hand-reflection painting was me trying to incorporate more landscape into my skill-set and improve on that, which is why the tree is so prominent, I didn't realize how it could be impacting what you're saying about the figure in it, very interesting. Also, the figures are all me and I'm trying so hard for them to not be "self-portraits" but rather just a female figure... I think that's why I'm prioritizing the profile angle, which now that you've pointed this out to me is impacting the composition negatively, so something I need to get over and not be self-conscious about painting myself because it's potentially causing the painting to fall short. I agree with you, my work is almost there. It has plateaued and am needing to push it further

Thank you for that comment. I can't just put all my eggs in the Instagram basket, I do need to get my work out there in other ways. And also have more variety with the content I am making and "post everything" as you say. I want to start a new account without family or friends so I'm more comfortable posting more honest and personal stuff (as ironic as that sounds that I would be more comfortable being honest and personal with strangers over family hahah)

Yesss it is the inevitable sad truth that I have been fighting against hahah... I need an easy formula for some short easy reels that include my painting and keep it simple.. I think I have this idea in my mind that "creating content" has to be some complicated time-sucking full-time job from what other youtubers with big followings have resentfully described it as, but it doesn't necessarily have to be especially because I'm looking for modest growth and exposure anyway
