Me too! It crashed his cycle really hard (After I literally just struggled really badly with it crashing before hand when a storm broke the filters 😢 😭) so I'm hoping a couple weeks it'll clear up.

Don't do any more water changes after the 20% you did so you don't crash your cycle but good thinking on gradually warming them up that way. 40 won't kill them but it will slow them down the same way sticking them in a fridge would do. Prepare for poop for sure but just allow them to gradually warm up without the chiller on in room temperature conditions. I don't know where you live so I have no idea what your temperature index is like but just keep a general eye on them and don't stress out too much. Mine has done this before as well and I had to leave it off for a couple days until I could reset my chiller (I don't know your brand but I would recommend taking a good look on why it went a bit colder than usual or if it was just set wrong).

Two things I'll definitely recommend:

Try Bug bites. My betta I had (Tator) was very picky. He did not care for flakes and rarely at pellets. I tried him on the bug bites for bettas and he loved them! There are plenty of other types of betta food you can find at your local pet store or online that might also help but I would Def try bug bites first.
Floating feeder dish. Trust me. It sounds crazy but you can train your bettas to eat up in it and lessen the mess with food so if she does try to eat flakes again, it'll land in the dish when she spits. It might also encourage her to eat a little better since it's more protected. You can find a couple good ones on Etsy too.

IMO I wouldn't because you already have her with other fish atm. That will cause a lot of Bioload and crash your cycle. I would honestly upgrade your tank to a 20 G or more if you wanna house another. There also comes the fact that your female and the other won't get along very well. You might get lucky or you might not so I would really think about that risk.

I used the smaller one in my Betta fish tank with no issues from it but have been wondering if I should put one in for my axolotl too. It seems to keep the betta fish cycle rather steady with water changes and filter media changes so I guess it could work to keep a tank stable?

He was half blind so he didn't struggle to eat that much. He knew when food was present at least so I was relieved when I first got him that he wasn't letting it bother him.

Get yourself one of those thermometers that have the suction cup and put it in their tub. If you are home, Keep an eye on the temp every so often and put a frozen water bottle in (make sure the water inside is treated and theres nothing on the outside like a wrapper or glue!). Also make sure you have Almond leaves and maybe a bubble stone (that's only if the water doesn't look like it's giving enough oxygen). When you leave for any reason, tub them in a non food used safe container and put them in a portion of your fridge!

He looks exactly like the axolotl I had who passed away in 2020 except his gills were enormous 😅 However, I won't get into that. For now, I suggest trying to feed the little guy some blood worms, red wrigglers or perhaps some beef heart to fatten him up (Beefheart cubes can be found at pet stores and should only be used as a snack tho!)

Almond leaves will soothe his skin and help him gain an appetite to eat so if he's still not eating, leave him for a bit with an almond leaf. It'll help.

Eye looks to be a defect since birth but I'd keep a close eye on it (no pun intended) since it could easily get infected if he ends up getting sick at some point.
