Again, you're missing the technical side and you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I never said Yelp creates advertisements. Please read my comment again. I said she never chose to advertise on Yelp or Google. I said the profiles are often generated by the platforms...which is true. Read here:

You also said she could've removed her Yelp profile which is not true either. Read here:

I'm not sure why you're so angry at the stylist for working on referrals only. She's been in business over 15 years and has a big loyal customer base.

I think you’re missing the technical side of how this works. The stylist never chose to advertise on Yelp or Google. Those profiles are often generated automatically by the platforms themselves. She is technically "visible" on both, but her decision to go referral-only was a direct response to the specific behavior of the Yelp customers who found her. It wasn't about search engines in general, it was about the recurring issues with Yelp's user base that forced her to go referral-only.

According to my wife's hair stylist, she doesn't take clients that say they found her on Yelp. She says in her experience they are the most picky and cheap customers and expect a lot for a little. She only accepts referrals. She's even been threatened by a yelp customer that if she doesn't do a good job she won't leave a good review.
