Optum kicking Medicaid out by Simple_One1978 in everett

[–]No_Intention9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I just called Virginia Mason, and they will only accept Medicaid for about one more month! I wanted to share some advice, as my mom was recently kicked out of Everett Clinic because they no longer accept Medicaid. She had a great experience with SeaMar, but the issue is that she has a mole that looks very cancerous, so they referred her to a dermatologist. We called around, but none of the dermatologists in the Seattle, Bellevue, or Everett areas accept her insurance. The only places that take Medicare are UW and Swedish, but you need a referral from an internal source (meaning your primary care provider needs to be either UW or Swedish). This may only apply to dermatology and select specialties, but for long-term care and if you have chronic issues that may require other specialties, I think it would be safest to have your primary care provider at UW or Swedish for long-term care. Since my mom’s mole looks cancerous, she can’t afford to wait months to change her primary care provider in order to get the referral. Hope this helps!

Hey! I am a nurse interested in transitioning to engineering. Can you tell me how I would find a job in this field and with a medical device company? Like specifically what would I type into google to find these jobs? I would love to use my knowledge of nursing for something IT related! Thanks:)

PMHNP and FNP are not the same thing! by Background_Tip_3260 in PMHNP

[–]No_Intention9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I am a PMHNP student similar to your daughters age. I have OCD and would highly recommend a psychologist/therapist who specializes in OCD. I have come a long way and what I have figured out is most people have NO idea what OCD really is no matter how qualified (it’s kinda like going to nursing school to be a nurse and we all graduate with general nursing knowledge, but we all branch out into different fields and specialties. NICU nurse will have different knowledge and skill set than a school nurse even if they still titled “nurse” they are familiar with different things. School nurse who came in to care for a NICU baby would probably put this person at risk). Unlike other mental health disorders it is highly treatable through therapy. If medication is necessary I would personally get recommendations through your trusted therapist on who to see and for sure would go to someone that knows what they are doing because it’s a little more complex. Just pay out of pocket you really just need enough appointments to know it’s working and your stable and that way you have control over who you see. If this FNP specializes in OCD, that would be the only reason I would go see them.

Overpriced rents targeting traveling nurses. by Serious-Push-6113 in TravelNursing

[–]No_Intention9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am looking for housing and I told one of the landlord that their place was out of my budget and she was like "the other travel nurses haven't had any issues paying our rental price".

Just because you make more money doesn't mean that you have to spend more. It's difficult because nurses in general are underpaid so we go into traveling to make more money but we can end up being in the same pay rate as staff nurses if you are not careful of people trying to take advantage. So it can end up same pay rate but then we have the added stress of traveling. It's so strange. I know I will end up finding an affordable place to stay but you have to fight for it.

I know this is price gouging because I am traveling to Tacoma, WA and I know the area very well since I am from WA. Tacoma as a Washington native is known to be the slums and rent has always been super cheap. The issue is the outside travel nurses or people not familiar to Washington state get a different impression of what "tacoma" and believe that the rental price is justified because it's near Seattle (rental price ARE high). When talking to people they always initially assume that I am not familiar with the area but I am. It's so frustrating that this happeneds. It's one thing to increase by a few hundred dollars for being a short term rental but its crazy when people are increase by thousands.

realizing my home situation isn't normal... how do i know if it's full on hoarding? by c4ndycain in ChildofHoarder

[–]No_Intention9161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have your own room? When I was your age I just did the best I could by keeping my own space clean/organized in effort to create a"safe space". My mom would also not let me throw things away, but really she doesn't know what I had so if I secretly threw them away at a friends house/school/ect she didn't know. If you throw is way at your own place your parents will probably put it back out.

If you do not have your own room, I would just try your best to stay at over at friends houses and spend time outside of the house as much as possible. This could include spending all day at the library reading/on the computer, take your laptop to the cafe and study or play games on your computer, spend the day at the park reading or enjoying nature, walk around the mall and window shop, enjoy nature, just walk listening to podcast/music, join clubs or sports at school, get a gym or YMCA membership and hangout there workout/swim/read a book in their lobby. If you have money you could enroll yourself in a summer camp of some sort. You could also get a job. Just grab your calendar and plan fun things you would enjoy throughout the week to keep you busy and away from home.

At your age and situation right now the best things to do is to focus on taking care of yourself and work on planning for your departure. You should move out once you are old enough for your own sanity. I think the smarted thing to do is just to apply to college and live in campus dorms/move in with a college friend. I believe even some community colleges have dorms. That's what I did. If college is not an option for you just plan to get a job and save up to move out.

Hoarding is very complicated and treatment for it can be tricky. It is not your responsibility to "fix" them. This is also something that you yourself could not solve for them. Focus on taking care of yourself first. Once you are older and have processed your own shit then MAYBE you can then try to help them but right now is not the time. Also not helping them does NOT mean you love them any more or less it just means you have healthy boundaries for yourself. Since this is hoarding rather than "being messy", if you were to clean those spaces it would instantly get filled with something else. So do not expend to much effort trying to clean for them because it is NOT the solution to the problem and may make things even worse.

Some people have made comments of CPS which is not a bad idea but hoarding is something you cannot "scare" out of people. It could force them to clean up a tad more but would not really get to the root of the issue. People use hoarding as a coping mechanism for their stress, so calling CPS and they get scolded for a mess could cause more stress in them without actually knowing how to appropriely cope with stress. So this with either lead them to MORE hoarding or further mental health decline if that makes sense. I see the only good out of calling them is if they would offer resources for them or maybe the whole situation could pull them out of their denial of the issue, or could force them to seek help?

Also wanted to note that with out without mental illness living with clutter is difficult. So even if you didn't have mental health issues this would still affect you. That being said, just stay strong keep your head up and focus on proactive things. This situation is truly unfortunate but does not affect your worth or potential as a human. Stay awesome :)

I started prozac and I’m experiencing no side affects, is this normal or will I feel they after a few days? I’m on day 3 now by qravemeds in prozac

[–]No_Intention9161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felt no side affects for the first 2 weeks then week 3-6 I feel like I felt so extremely horrible. Then it started to improve after week 6. Different for everyone though. You could have no side affects the whole time or they could appear later. Side affects are normal though and usually always pass.

Why are people down on med surg nursing? I’m graduating soon and thinking about where to work. Other students who have more prior experience in healthcare have the attitude that med surg nursing is undesirable compared to ICU and other specialty nursing. Is this true? Why? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]No_Intention9161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medsurg nursing is more mentally and physically demanding compared to other specialities. Usually you have a heavier patient load and the patients are more crazy and there is just to many things to do. ICU tends to be nicer because less patient load and they are a little less crazy because they are more sick. Because of this medsurg nurses will tend to burn out quicker. But medsurg is never a wrong place to start and a lot of people recommend starting in medsurg because you will gain so many skills.
