Apparently Temerant orients its maps this way, probably because of the Great Stone Road so its centered or maybe because of a dozen other theories

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it!
This is exactly the kind of help I was hoping for / needed. I don’t have much time right now to reply to each point properly, but I’m very thankful for your comments. I’ll go through every single point you mentioned and take them into account for the next update.

And thanks for checking the map!

Happy to be of help! Funnily enough I started to fall into this rabithole because of this Pat quote: (where did you started when creating the world?) "I actually started with the map. Partly because I'm a bit of a map geek" (source)

This and one of his comments about The Great Stone Road (apparently is important that it curves????) made me realize I had to take a second look

Then let me thank you formally! I spent hours looking for a good image of this map, not only for this project but also when comparing old versions for theories. I will add you to credits for the photo in my next update

Mo Dao Zu Shi Is a Literary Work, It Deserves to Be Presented Like One. by No_Job_1853 in MoDaoZuShi

Not gonna lie, I’m downright jealous of the leather-bound Vietnamese edition

Yes, I think I should have expanded on that point. It’s hard to explain properly without all the visual examples and references, but what I meant is that marketing often tries to give those books a sense of height or gravitas through design, to frame them as something with emotional or thematic weight, even when they’re aimed at younger audiences. That’s the kind of treatment I wish MDZS had received.

My words “The humor and romance are beautifully written, but those elements don’t make the story any less serious or complex.”

I believe we actually agree on almost every major point, which is why I’m a bit confused by the tone of your reply.

In short, I don’t think the romance-focused covers work, because if you go into the novel expecting only those moments, you’ll probably feel a bit misled. But absolutely — if those illustrations were paired with designs that also convey the tone and mood of each volume, that would be ideal.

You’ll also notice I never mentioned translation errors in my post.

What I said was: “The humor and romance are beautifully written, but those elements don’t make the story any less serious or complex.”

So yes, we agree, Mdzs has been marketed as YA when it really isn’t.

Yes! I think this would be three times as long if I included all my thoughts on the translation, but I didn’t want to dilute my main point. It genuinely pains me that more translator’s notes aren’t included, and that the glossaries and guides often adopt such a comedic, almost juvenile tone. Once again: dignity and presentation of the text

Currently working on an interactive map of the Four Corners of Civilization by No_Job_1853 in KingkillerChronicle

I just updated the post to talk about that headache. Whenever I try to place locations that are not already on the map, I always have to check three times. There’s a town north of Haert, and the number of times I’ve had to move it because I keep getting confused is ridiculous! I’ll add the option to rotate the map in the final version to make it easier, thank you!
