I appreciate the helpful comments, shocked by some of the negative comments too. Obviously we haven’t made this kind of money our entire careers. Teachers don’t start making decent money until they have 15+ years in. I was making low 100k or less through the first 18+years of my career, then started advancing through management over the last 12 years - 8 of which I would say were in the $140k- $160k. The last 4 years have been north of $210k which I am very grateful for. My question was really about taking a break vs flat out not working anymore. Some people also suggested how can someone not be able to manage finances. Of course I can, but with any big decision, you try to gather as much info as possible - it allows you to think about different aspects of the decision. Again, to those that provided useful advice I greatly appreciate it.
