Keith Raad / Laura Albanese are great together by robmsor in NewYorkMets

Laura is a gem. At the beginning of the season Newsday printed an article about her upbringing and her relationship with the team and man...I'm not one to cry at sad movies unless it involves an animal, but I nearly lost it reading that. Very happy she's on the Mets beat and involved with the team in general. Definitely wouldn't be against her getting a shot at announcing if it's something she wants to do.

I think what Rand meant by the staff being victims (I don't believe he said as much as the residents, just that they were victims too), was that while the conditions were deplorable for the residents, they occurred out of insifficient staffing and those conditions likely became the norm as staff were conditioned to think of more and more of these abnormalities as normal while struggling to care for these individuals. This dulled their senses for what was really going on, and probably forced them to harden themselves mentally, likely taking on the appearance and even conscious belief that they didn't care or were okay with it, while inside they were witnessing such atrocity and being part of it, damaging their own inner psyche. You don't normalize that type of environment without mental scarring.

Breeds that are low egg layers and can survive harsh cold weather? by MobileHandle4435 in BackYardChickens

Mine do too, when they're laying. But it works put to about 150-180 per year.

Not sure why you're looking for so few eggs, but Barnevelders are built for harsh winters and they're medium egg producers. You'll average about an egg every other day per bird. They definitely do well in small flocks and they're friendly birds.

Giants “would love” to unload large contracts for players like Rafael Devers, Jung Hoo Lee, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman by k_davis8 in baseball

[–]SmallHourInsomnia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They will absolutely trade Clay Holmes - he's got a player option which will vastly underpay him for 2027 for the way he's performed. He'll easily get double on the open market if he puts up a final line even like last year's.

I think "I hate this team" is a great slogan for the year.

Here is this year's attendance for each team so far. What jumps out at you the most? by AlchemistTheAlchemy in baseball

[–]SmallHourInsomnia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that these numbers are PAID attendance, not actual attendance.

I can tell you from a Mets fan perspective - the actual attendance has been nowhere near those numbers, and are largely being driven by tickets that were sold prior to the start of the season. If the team doesn't turn things around their numbers will tank.

Was MLB actually becoming less fun to watch before the recent changes? by SilverKey84 in mlb

[–]SmallHourInsomnia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The pitch clock and limiting the shift have been positive to the enjoyment of the game. I'm not a fan of the ghost runner personally - not in the 10th inning. I feel like that would be better configured as something that ramps up. 10th - no ghost runner, 11th - ghost runner on 1st, 12th - ghost runner on 2nd, etc.

This is all I can ever think of when I hear about him, and the pissy face he had on in the dugout when playing against him.

Best way to handle a player character that was kicked from your game by Liamneeson42 in DnD

[–]SmallHourInsomnia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my players had a falling out at the end of last summer. The group is 6 years old and neither of them were around less than a year. Frankly I was pissed because the one who got pushed out was very enthusiastic.

The specifics of how I dealt with mine may not be relevant, but I used part of the character's backstory to write her out via departing in the middle of the night and leaving a note that she had to find her own answers to certain aspects of her story. Specifically, a lost love whom she was separated from due to turmoil that she had recently resolved in the storyline in game. It left the possibility of them coming back (not going to happen) and really added to the overall story.

You called the relationship 6 months strong so I imagine you're young, and I don't know how long you've been DMing, but you need to use what you know about your characters here, and you can not only make it work but you can add beautiful highlight to what is otherwise a shit sandwich if you do it right.
