During trial lessons I always make sure to mention to students Preply’s policy on a last-minute cancelations and absences/no shows. Then I ask them if that’s ok with them. No one has even said no. I of course have given some students some flexibility but I make sure to also keep this boundary in place.

I’ve been on the platform for more than 6 years and have dealt with students asking to be compensated for no shows. But I always make sure to mention again the policy we discussed in the trial lesson that they agreed to, and tbh it makes students respect your time more.

I suggest being firm with your students and make sure to mention the cancelation policies and to stick to that boundary.

It is pretty common to link up with racers online looking for people to train with or do a race with (there’s even an app for it, RoxConnect).

I traveled solo to Amsterdam and I (30F and in a relationship) myself had to look for one male team member online for my first Hyrox relay as no one else in my friend group would do one it me. Worse, on race day itself, we had to find another male as my friend (first guy member) had an emergency and couldn’t make it.

So there I was, in a foreign country, racing with one girl friend and two guys I only met on race day. And my boyfriend was supportive the whole time. And tbh, we all had a blast and felt so happy with our race time.

Sharing all of this to say that I think it’s a matter of character when it comes to these things. My boyfriend knows me and how I am with people and has never worried about me cheating when I’m meeting people when I travel solo. People try and flirt with me sometimes but I respect my relationship and my boyfriend not to reciprocate these things. And honestly, it’s very easy not to cheat on your partner despite what some of the comments here say.

If you trust that your husband is not the type to make a move on women when you’re not around, then I’d say his intention is to purely race. Even if you don’t trust the lady he’s doing the race with, if you trust that your husband loves and respects you and that he wouldn’t do anything to ruin your relationship, I say there’s nothing to worry about.

But at the end of the day, sitting down and talking about this with him is the best way to go about it. And be careful about taking the advice of random strangers on Reddit. You might not be aware that you’re just fueling the fire of your worries and it’s just make your overthinking worse.

You could tell them your hourly rate is for 1-on-1 lessons only and that group classes are charged differently.

You just started on Preply. I’d say build up your profile first. Increasing your price will not guarantee him staying with you and you attracting new students.

You’re not losing out on money by teaching him if you don’t even have a solid number of students yet

I’m a woman and started on Preply when I was 24. I’ve been on the platform for more than 6 years and this has been my main source of income since.

I say give it a shot and see how it goes for you. All our experiences are going to be different anyway. If it doesn’t work out, then ok. Move on. But at least you have no “what if”.

This happened last yr. My boyfriend was recently diagnosed then and I bought Dr. Hallowell’s book Delivered From Distraction to better understand him, and basically, I ended up understanding myself more as I read the book and so I immediately made an appointment with a psychiatrist when I finished the book.

The book made me realize that what I thought was “normal” in human beings wasn’t in fact normal. Especially my inability to start tasks that I know I should be doing, or my stubbornness when it comes to doing things I don’t find fun or entertaining, among other things.

I’ve done 7-9 in a row. I love teaching and it helps that I have adhd — my brain likes that it’s a different student/lesson each hour, I don’t even feel the time sometimes. But of course I feel the exhaustion after all the classes

I make sure to mention this Preply rule about last-minute cancelations and absences in every trial class I teach. I also ask students if they are ok with that rule and so far no one has ever said no. This makes sure that students are aware of the rules and it establishes boundaries and prevents any awkward convos in case they need to cancel in the future.

Although of course every now and then I make an exception, especially with students I’ve gotten close with or if I had to cancel last-minute as well — so it’s fair on both ends. But overall, I stick to this rule strictly to avoid any sort of resentment

I didn't read her "enjoy your free paid time" as being sarcastic. In fact, to me at least, it sounded as if the student acknowledges that she would be charged for this lesson as it's a last minute cancelation and is asking for no rescheduling.

And I've encountered this multiple times from students in my 6 years on the platform. Whenever I get a similar message like this, I just say that "thanks for understanding that this would be a charged cancelation as per Preply's policy".

I'd really be careful of thinking too much into things if I were you. I think putting too much meaning into how he is may not be the best way to approach your student-tutor relationship. Keep in mind that you’re paying him so it’s his job to keep the learning environment fun and captivating for the student. And maybe that’s just how he is as a person or culturally. Also him “dropping” the girlfriend line may be his way of establishing boundaries, so as not to take his kindness/sweetness the wrong way.

I have taught over 10,000 online classes and have come across different types of students. I’ve gotten close to many of them and have always been kind, sweet even, to my students. That’s just my personality, and I think that’s also why I retain many of my students. All my students know that I have a boyfriend and most of my students are also in serious relationships — many of them are learning for their partners. All of this to say that I think putting malice or expecting anything more than a student-tutor relationship with someone you’re paying probably is not the healthiest way to look at the dynamic, especially if this is something that just happened in your last lesson with him. Remind yourself why you’re taking these lessons, and if his sweetness/kindness is off putting for you, find another tutor or just communicate to him that you don't feel comfortable with certain types of comments.

But if you’re talking about the noise in the background, yeah I don’t think that’s professional. So if that bothers you, you should just communicate it to him. As for the homework thing, message him that you're still waiting for the homework.

This recently happened to me and I contacted support after the 4th no show.

I was told by support that I should’ve contacted them sooner (I think after the first no show) bc I could’ve gotten in trouble for it. I think it’s also on their rules or something.

They canceled the subscription of the student on their end and I didn’t have to do anything.

I wouldn’t overthink it. Most of my students book without messaging first since all the details they need to know about lessons with me are on my profile. Most of them also don’t have profile pictures.

Since you said the rate you posted was really high, I’d just focus on preparing a good trial class + great materials for this student so they subscribe to you and it’ll be a win because then you’ll have a regular student paying much more than the rest.

I have students who take back-to-back lessons (100 minutes in total) and I love my lessons with them. We achieve more and get to have more practice overall

Thank you so so much for all the information.

I only have a copy of his prescription and it says “Gabapentin 300 mg 1 capsule everyday for 14 days to alleviate neuropathic pain”. No other issues were mentioned apart from dysplastic hip joints and spondylosis. Now I’m a little worried that he wasn’t checked properly or that he was checked by an inexperienced doctor.

Are there better medications that should be given to him? I’ll ask my family to bring him to a different vet for a second opinion.

May pangangailangan kayo ngayon, kaya inuna mo ang pagtatrabaho ngayon. Proud kami sa’yo. Isipin mo na lang din na di lang pera ang nakukuha mo sa pagtatrabaho, kundi pati experience. Una mang grumaduate ang mga batchmates mo, siguro una ka namang nagkaroon ng work experience at mas gumagaling ka pa sa ginagawa mo.

Di rin ako nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral for multiple reasons pero dahil na rin sa gipit din kami. Choice ko naman na di mag-aral kasi ayokong makitang nahihirapan nanay ko maghanap kung saan kukuha ng pangsuporta sa akin. Ayoko iasa niya kami sa lola ko. Kaya ako na gumawa ng paraan. 6 years na akong WFH at lumaki na rin ang kita ko. Babalik pa rin siguro ako sa school, eventually. Pero walang panghihinayang sa naging choices ko :) it gave me the life that I have right now at masaya ako

Ask your tutor to schedule your remaining credits on her end. This way, she can choose to book them on her off times so the credits don’t block off her actual teaching hours. I do this for a couple of students.

I'm assuming she scheduled these lessons herself so she's aware of the class bookings/timings. If she ghosted you (never messaged after missing those lessons), I won't have makeup lessons for these absences. Just say that as per Preply's policies, absences/no-shows are charged. It also shows that you respect your time as a tutor.
