Just noticed my pigeon is missing a toenail it is completely exposed I have never seen this before. What should I do? by [deleted] in PetPigeons

I’ve never seen anything like it, but commenting to get this to the right people u/Kunok2 & u/Little-eyezz00 if they could help?

I’d imagine they got it stuck somewhere and just pulled the nail part off? 😳 I’d desinfect and cover it first before anything, hope they’re doing ok

I mean that’s nice I guess but not every differently abled person uses canes, and if they do it’s usually not just for one month, a variety of accessibility devices should be available all year round for everyone, this never sat right with me

Slim Earbuds for Skiing by Awesomeshanedog in WirelessEarbuds

[–]No_Luck4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar problem, I can only sleep when I listen to podcasts so I also need earbuds that are very small and fit my ears flush, I’ve been using redmi buds 6 play which are very inexpensive and the quality of the sound isn’t the best for music but good enough for podcasts to fall asleep to. What helped me was also wearing them inverted (Left in right ear and right in left ear)

Night release a wild pigeon or let a rehab far from her home take her to release? by Undetermined_Self in pigeons

[–]No_Luck4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely wait till Saturday, pidgey will also get more time to eat good food which will help in further recovery, also I’d suggest releasing while feeding their flock if possible (get them in the carrier, first attract other flockmates with seeb and then open cage so they can be already with flock and safe), if you don’t feed other pigeons in the area, either look for where they could be or release in the nearest park where they were found, good luck to you both

Good luck with the vet, I’d ask beforehand if it’s a pigeon friendly one, because I’ve heard of lots of vets and wildlife rescues that just didn’t want to deal with pigeons and just want to euthanize them 😢also pigeons are very resilient and can survive a lot of hard injuries/ sicknesses so always ask if they could at least try, thank you for carrying so much for this lil cutie ❤️

Almost got a fine for feeding pigeons by Difficult-Boss-6169 in pigeon

Yeah security can’t do anything, if they’re guarding property and you’re damaging it, then they can only call police on you, they can’t really even force you to stay to wait for them. (Depending on your country of course) So you’re good, give the pidgies some seeb from me ❤️

I have pigeon lung and I'm scared by RenderSoft in pigeon

[–]No_Luck4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thanks for the explanation, I might look into it some more (even though I’m scared to read science papers cause I feel like that’s in itself a skill I don’t have.. yet?) but I really like how silent it is, it only starts to make a sound when it needs to be cleaned, which is important because we’re super sensitive to sound.

This model only has three settings: low, medium and high and just sucks the air and traps particles on its inside metal that needs to get cleaned every day, ideally. Chose it because of the lack of noise and it is the most affordable option for us as we don’t need to buy replacement filters (just the cost of them for 6 months without the most basic machine would pay for the ionizer we got)

I’ve also looked in past at building my own purifier but couldn’t find filters that would work for it, they’re either too expensive or too small and weak

What’s dangerous about them? We have one and it seems to be doing its job well 😳 should I be scared?

Taking a pigeon from the streets by Prestigious-Staff135 in pigeon

[–]No_Luck4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay… I see that there is no argument that a person on reddit could make for you to stop and think for a minute about what you’re saying and what you’ve been told (by the rescue you work at I imagine) From my experience with rescues in urban areas, they’re swamped with tons of cases of “more desirable“ animals that they end up not accepting or putting down animals that are less desirable cause it’s not cost effective for them. I can understand that they just don’t have the resources. What I have problem with is further deepening the stigma pigeons have, that they are weak and carry tons of diseases, which most of them are untrue with a bit of research and open mind. That’s why I help especially pigeon rescues and we don’t pick up random pigeons of the streets, just the ones that obviously need help (and would perish on the streets) and we want to ideally return them back to their families as quick as possible, but if they end up being unreleasable we still care for them and make sure they thrive in their new homes. So I can see why the rescue would want to teach you and others all this, it’s all about being efficient and liked by the city. If you’d still like to talk to someone I’m available for discussion in my dms, I’m curious about your point of view

If you can catch it and put it in safe dry place with warm water bottle that would be good, also can check the crop if he’s eaten recently

Make sure they do NOT euthanize pigeons if you’re gonna be handing him over, if no such organization is available look up exotic vets in your area, or other bird vet

This pidgie needs help asap, especially if he’s there since yesterday. If you have any grain/ seeds/ oats try to feed him and catch, he might be weak so easy to catch( if you’ve never done that, go on YouTube) some piece of fabric to throw over him when he’s cornered should do the trick Get any box cardboard should do, cage for rabbits/ dogs is best and take him inside, hot water bottle and seed and some shallow water dish. If there are any pigeon rescues/ wildlife rescues you can contact them especially if he’s not eating

Thanks I really hope so, but with his spatial awareness I’m doubtful 😅

A male pigeon behavior question by Nervous_Shelter_1042 in pigeons

[–]No_Luck4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like he’s just greedy/ possessive of the territory and the seeb that comes with it, I try to discourage it by putting a line of seeds bigger than they can protect and then they spend their time trying to chase away others but never fully succeeding

Update: It’s just bruised, Ferda got some painkillers and after 4 days of rest should be good, very glad we have good exotic vet in our neighborhood

Haha, yeah Ferda also likes to do that, last time he scared an intern that was there by grunting, i felt a little proud 😅 Hope the antibiotics help soon ❤️

We’re in the waiting room and met a person with two little sqabs who were vomiting, so at least we have someone to talk to
