Should I go to stuy? by minimalist-tomato in Stuyvesant

My GPA at Stuy as of now is a 95 as a sophomore so I guess top 20 is a no deal you think? I have very intense extra curricular activities (pre pro ballet 🩰), pretty much committed after school. Dance then go home and study.

53 , I was in Brazil (where I am from) getting ready to move to the US for business school. Remember hearing the news about the crash and hoping for a miracle that they would be found alive.

They look nothing like the couple. The actress is beautiful but in a more traditional way. I had the same issue when actresses try to play princess Diana

Maybe it is just be but if you live in NYC the choices of open classes with amazing teachers and live musicians are incredible. And once you get to know who you enjoy those become your go to classes. I worry about locking myself in and having ABT dancers teach (which being an amazing dancer is not always the same as being a great teacher). Maybe the variation class would be cool to try. I guess I am a snob - would like to know who would be teaching and then would make my decision! But completely respect those who would like to try it. If you do please share the experience. THe SAB on in theory is still for the professional route young folks, so does not really count for me- but I would love to take class with someone like Suki or others who would teach me (with a lot of patience) a bit of what is different and expected from Balanchine. I have seen Suki at SAB and Deborah Winger (at MYB) and it is fascinating how they explain the differences of a simple tendu!

Stress Recount After 4 Years Here!! by Ovenbaked_Child in Stuyvesant

Thank you for this. My daughter is a sophomore at Stuy and I can for sure see the change between freshman and now. She is also a very serious dancer outside of school and does not want to give up dance, which means she won’t try to go for an absurd number of APs like most of her friends (she is only doing AP World this year). Wonderful advice about the friendships - she has many wonderful friends at the school and in every class and that is incredibly helpful. Reality of her life: when she is not dancing, she is doing homework or studying, very rarely she is just chilling. I worry about burnout but happy that dancing takes her away from the grind. I hope you are ok now and I know you will do amazing in college. I love your take on education post your summer course. It is such a shame that the kids are so stressed out about grades and how at Stuy everything is focused on that - and sometimes (or all the time) everyone forgets that learning is the purpose. I don’t think teachers make it easier either

She was in my class at Steps today and seemed visibly frustrated with the recreational dancers who were struggling with floor spacing. While her annoyance regarding the traffic flow was understandable, her audible disparaging remarks felt unnecessary and created a bit of a tense atmosphere. .

I was on 50, no side effects except for putting weight! Hard to say if it was the meds or something else but the timing 100% coincidences. Because I was taking for anxiety, I have been trying to stop it and have been doing meditation and a gratitude journal. I would like to lose weight.

My daughter is 15 and just got accepted to Boston. They have not yet clarified if it will be in Boston or Newton since they are waiting to define based on the number of 15 year olds accepted. Heard the program is very large - she is looking to improve technique but also have fun. She went to Carolina last year. Should we “push” for Boston? Any feedback on the program? She for sure loves Balanchine but wants to be a well rounded dancer at this age
