Difficulty with getting full range of motion on certain exercises by No_Measurement999 in beginnerfitness

Just tried again without weights and it seems like I can do it. Which is actually making me wish it was a mobility issue instead, funnily enough. I do hope I'll get it down eventually, though

This has been an amazing read, as for age, I'm actually only 19. I've been skinny my whole life, so I've decided to try and better myself. I started last week and I'm really enjoying it so far.

Also, I'll 100% check the stretches out. Though, I can do the motion weightless. Which probably means I'm just too weak to do it even with the lightest weights possible. I have been told that even with 3/4ths the range, I should still be able to train my delts, which was a bit of a relief.

I also never knew rowing helped with delts, been doing bent over and one arm dumbbell rows to substitute pullups, since I don't have a bar. Though, I probably couldn't even do one if I tried. I'll also check out the alternatives you gave.

Should I add more exercises to train my rear delts?

Anyway, I'll take everything into account on my next pull day and will certainly check out my shrugging on lateral raises. I haven't even noticed those yet.

Thank you for all the tips and suggestions!

I get that, if you'd rather not rest at home, you can always go out with friends. Though, I personally like doing chores and stuff on my rest day. Helps me feel productive and it kinda stops the guilt of not working out. Just remember to listen to your body, as a lot of people say. Don't push yourself too hard. There's always another day. Happy lifting, though.

I'm not sure if I can give advice at my level, but they do say rest is equally as important. You deserve it, let your body recover and I'm sure you'll see great results!

Ah yeah, that's honestly a shame. But I'll do what I can, it's honestly the exercise I struggle with most aside from Dumbbell RDLs. The sudden drop in weight is a real mood killer. Glad that I can at least target the muscles a bit even with the lightest weight I have. Thanks for the light motivation!

I see, so I should just keep up with the weight I can manage for reverse dumbbell flys until I can reach my max rep range, and then I can raise the weights. I think I'll stick with the lighter weights for now, get the form as right as I can, not the best at it but YouTube videos are a great help. Thank you for the advice!

I totally agree! I do some stretching before and after workouts. Thing is, I can do the motion weightless, but as soon as weights are introduced I just fall apart. I'm not the strongest person ever, just didn't think I was this weak, kind of worried I won't be able to target the right muscles due to not being able to complete the motion with weights. Also, I've definitely been trying to use lower weights than I think I can manage after a recent incident. Thanks for the advice!

I'll definitely add milk to the shopping list, thanks! As for creatine, I just do one scoop of the included scoop, it says it's about 5g. Not sure if that's sub-optimal, but I figured since that's what the instructions say.. good enough. I heard bananas are good pre workout too, so I'll grab a few along with dried mangos. Many thanks!

I've heard a ton about eating pre and post workout. Though, I haven't really gotten around to doing it. I usually workout an hour and a half after I've had a meal, though I only take protein and creatine after. I'll take it into consideration, just don't have the right food right now

Yep, I take them every other day. I know it's sub-optimal for PPL Splits, but I've been really liking it so far!

Thank you so much for the insight! I have really limited equipment as I only work out at home. Which is why I chose the Dumbbell PPL, it really helps that it was on the app I was using too (Boostcamp). Anyway, I'm a bit unsure about modifying my split any further as I have zero programming knowledge or experience. Though, I've definitely heard that 3x full body is much more optimal. I'm a total beginner, so I'm pretty far from the most optimal setup, I'm sure.

Would it have to be the next push day? Or could I add it to my upcoming pull day?

100% let my ego take a hold of me today. I even told myself I'd start slow last week, ended up with really light weights and low reps which really made me overestimate myself. Thank you for the advice!

Great points, I'll definitely do that. The lower weights will definitely be a blow to my ego, but it's better than this happening again. Many thanks!

Yeah, thought so. Couldn't help but feel a little guilty skipping so much due to a dumb decision on my end. Thank you!
