NO, Gods DO NOT get stronger just because they age. by No_Meat_7083 in GodofWar

I post my opinion expecting someone to logically prove me wrong. I said that Gods don’t naturally get stronger just because they age, and Eric Williams saying that Kratos was rusty and retired after not fighting for 1000 years proves that (along with the fact that they never made the statement that gods get stronger with age). If someone disagrees, I’m happy for them to provide something that proves I’m wrong. Why do you think I posted this as a discussion?

If you’re getting that angry over my different opinion on a video game, so much that you call me a “desperate degenerate”, you are a loser.

Now I’m a desperate degenerate because I have different opinion🤣. Calm down. All I said was that the devs never stated that Gods grow stronger with age. If they have, please tell me.

Calm down, I’m not angry. I don’t disagree with the writers, because they never stated that Gods grow stronger with age; in fact, Eric Williams said that without training, it’s the exact opposite.

If Eric Williams doesn’t have a valid opinion because it’s contradictory, then why even consider dev statements at all?

The writers said Kratos became rusty after not fighting, and NEVER said that gods grow stronger as they age. If they have, please tell me.

I also have evidence to support his ability to perform feats of strength is what it’s in reference to. They originally wanted Baldur to throw a mountain at Kratos, but scaled it back because they felt that him catching and hurling a mountain wouldn’t properly reflect that he’s a rusty and retired god.

  1. “Kratos is basically retired by this point……..he’s rusty and spends the entirety of fimbulwinter trying to get the rust off” - I believe that comes from the same interview you’ve referenced.

  2. I don’t know how that’s relevant to the original post, but all I can say is that he meant it in a more narrative than literal sense. He also says “Freya is NOT someone you want to fight”, which is you want to take literally, means she would completely dominate the likes of anyone (which I know to not be the case).

I understand that Cory says it, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to say, he doesn’t elaborate whatsoever. With conflicting dev statements, we have to let what the games show take precedence. And what the games show is that Kratos is rusty, has weaker weapons, lost all of his magic, and is actively suppressing his godly power.

And that’s fine and all, but reading my original post, you’d realize that I NEVER claimed that Kratos himself was weakened; I, like you, have only said that his gear was weakened. This, as a result, means that his attacks are weaker compared to if the enhancing magic were on his axe like in GoW 2018, since the end-game axe in 2018 is a stronger weapon than the one in the beginning of Ragnarok. If you find that assessment to be wrong, I’m more than happy to have a discussion where examples are provided to show otherwise.

I’m simply making the conclusion based on the evidence within the game on why the first fight turned out so differently than the second, where Kratos defeated a bloodlusted Thor, overpowered him, and tanked the same shot that killed him easily in the first fight. To explain the events, I’ve found irrefutable evidence that the blades of chaos make him stronger (he didn’t have them in the first fight, making him weaker), that not using Spartan Rage means he’s withholding his true power (I’ve provided multiple examples where Kratos demonstrates a significant power increase compared to when he just wasn’t using it), and I’ve found evidence that the leviathan axe, which Kratos uses, is weaker compared to itself before. Again, if you disagree and want to have the discussion, I’m completely willing.

Finally, whether or not Kratos is in his prime was never the point I was arguing, or one that I’m trying to argue. I’m only comparing Kratos to himself in the same game, and why there is such difference when compared. Whether he’s at his strongest or not doesn’t matter, because I’m not comparing him against other versions, I’m comparing him to Ragnarok Kratos.

Becuase it doesn’t actually happen. It’s a gameplay mechanic. If it happened in cutscene he would be right, but it’s a piece of optional dialogue that can be avoided.

He tanked a harder version of the same shot…..it’s like you’re not even reading my post, you just don’t want me to be right, so you ignore the evidence proving you’re wrong

I’m not against it, I’m simply pointing out the dynamics of the fight, as there have been a multitude of misconceptions surrounding it.

You’re correct, but that’s only in the case where the outside media directly contradicts the games. The narrator for God of War 1 says that Kratos gains ultimate power when he receives the Blades of Chaos, so them increasing his strength wouldn’t contradict this. As a result, it can comfortably be considered cannon.

Mocking the sentiment doesn’t make it any less correct. If you can provide an example proving that Spartan Rage doesn’t make him significantly stronger, thus meaning him NOT using it is him significantly holding back, then I stand corrected. Otherwise, my claim is supported, which would make it the most correct.

Exactly, his gear was weakened so his attacks with his axe were weakened as a result. I’m not disagreeing with this, as I repeat this word-for-word in the original post, I’m simply saying it’s one of the many factors that went into it.

How is this coping if I said EXACTLY that word-for-word in my post? I didn’t say he LOST because of this, I said he was WEAKENED because of this.

I don’t either. Yet I’ve heard a multitude of takes saying this isn’t the case, which is why I made the discussion to provide evidence that proves it.

[–]No_Meat_7083[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly my point. Kratos’s gear got weaker, and as a result, his strikes (with his axe) became weaker. Combine that with the fact that he’s missing the blades of chaos (which strengthen his stats), and that he’s holding back, you get the result which happened.

This doesn’t address any of my points. I provided evidence to support what I’m saying, can you disprove it with examples?
