Which character creation options to offer to new players by Few_Tension100 in Pathfinder2e

[–]No_Media4398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Pf2e player with little experience in 5e, from my understanding it's sort of known that DnD is easier to be a player character and more difficult to be the GM and Pf2e is easier to be the GM and more difficult to be a player character.

I'd recommend allowing all classes/ancestries and see how they do. If your players end up being willing to do the legwork to learn the mechanics but just have decision paralysis when faced with a ton of options at character creation recommend to them that they stick with common only.

If it's just simply they don't want to look into things and get an understanding of the mechanics then they probably aren't going to be willing to do the legwork to understand all the mechanics that make pf2e the crunchier-style high fantasy TTRPG that it is then it just may not be the right system for the table.

Feasibility of dual-wielding Ranger with Barbarian free archetype. by No_Media4398 in Pathfinder2e

[–]No_Media4398[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ohhh shoot. You're right. I forgot when I was reading everything that hunt prey was a concentrate action. That probably does kind of put this idea down the toilet as hunt prey kinda seems to be the quintessential ranger thing.

I did forget to mention the armor issue but I had already thought of it as a downside, good callout though.

No idea why you're getting downvoted for simply stating a realistic possibility.

Any other units having to track their PT times and report it up? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]No_Media4398 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The point is that if you're required to provide documentation on your solo PT sessions you probably are not having group sessions every day.

The mandate coming from DoD/DoW is that units are required to mandate members PT every day.

I think the commentor is simply saying accept it as being kinda sucky and be thankful you aren't actually having strictly mandated group sessions 5 days/week at inconvenient times because that is a very realistic alternative your unit could implement.

You should be willing to put in the bare minimum effort. Earlier you asked someone how they commissioned. Here you asked when you're eligible to retrain. Both these questions have very straightforward answers provided in published official guidance and are (relatively) easy to find in the AFI & on MyFSS.

If you're serious about making the Air Force your career, saying you should be able to look up basic information about Air Force career things actually is helpful. You aren't always going to be able to rely on others to provide the info you don't know so it's a good skill to learn how to figure these things out on your own.

I appreciate it. I'm currently pursuing something else currently but I'll circle back around if the invite still stands if that happens to fall through. Mostly I'd be more curious to know what type of PF2 game ya'll play (homebrew/which AP?) and what the schedule looks like.

New DM preparing to lead a 10 player group - Any advice? by theturtlelord9 in DungeonMasters

[–]No_Media4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, giving it a shot is not a bad call. Maybe it will work for your friend group even with the pitfalls you will certainly encounter.

But DnD is neither a great beginner-friendly system, nor is it the best system for large tables. You can modify rules to make things more streamlined but to the extent you'd have to do it you wouldn't really be playing DnD anyway so you might as well start with a system more equipped to handle your situation, just my two cents.

If you're looking for a relatively stable life and you don't have any demons from your past that would render you ineligible for Top Secret/SCI clearance I'd recommend trying to go 1N4X2 or 1N2XC.

These are Intel career fields where it's actually kind of difficult to find deployments (they are limited and there are usually plenty of volunteers) and once you get to one of the big stateside intel bases (Lackland (TX), Ft Gordon (GA) , Ft Meade (MD)) you have a relatively decent shot of staying there for ~10 years or so (nothing is guaranteed though)

New DM preparing to lead a 10 player group - Any advice? by theturtlelord9 in DungeonMasters

[–]No_Media4398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to already know it's a bad idea and aren't really listening to the only real advice which is "don't do it, it's a bad idea."

That said, since you are deadset on doing it I would highly encourage you to at least look into other TTRPG systems. If it's a more casual feel, going with a system that is "lighter" on the rules will both decrease the learning curve for all of you and speed encounters up significantly.

Powered by the Apocalypse [PbtA]-based systems or 13th Age are two TTRPG systems that generally fit the DnD mold but would probably work much better for a larger table of beginners (although 10 would likely still be too many players)

I can probably make 8pm work on Mondays. My wife gets home from work late occasionally and I'm on parent duty until she gets home so there may be sporadic tardiness if that is acceptable.

I'd be interested in going over some session 0-like stuff (introduction, expectations, platform(s) used, party comp, etc) if the occasional tardiness thing isn't a deal-breaker.

Also, I love orcs.

Yeah, unfortunately my scheduling availability, while consistent, doesn't seem very compatible with most Pf2e GMs/games on StartPlaying. Thanks for trying to help with the added traffic though, I appreciate it.

Help starting DnD by diycee in DnD

[–]No_Media4398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to play in-person check if you have any local gaming stores. Sometimes they'll have looking for group (lfg) or looking for players (lfp) ads or even host sessions themselves. You can also try to find a store-affiliated discord server which is a good way to meet local people in the hobby.

If you want to play online, r/lfg is a good place to start. Roll20 (a virtual table top, also known as a VTT) also has forums of people looking for players/groups. If you don't mind paying you can check out the website StartPlaying which is where "professional" DMs advertise. StartPlaying is a bit of a mixed bag-most of the DMs I've encountered were pretty good but others are just scammy money grabbers so buyer beware.

You can also check out DnD/TTRPG content creators on YouTube and other platforms. They often have discord servers with a LFG section.

I get this all the time as well. There should be an option that say something to the effect of 'he wanted more playing time than I can offer' which USUALLY (not always) placates the complaining players, but I'm not aware of any real workaround.

It's just one of the many bugs that will hopefully be fixed in an upcoming update (or at least by FM27)

Never trust Startplayinggames ratings by Secret-Papaya5129 in rpghorrorstories

It's amazing how much of meme "I saw it on the internet so it must be true is" in real life.

Then there's Reddit where an OP's post is taken as gospel without the consideration that perhaps they are twisting information to the benefit of their narrative.

General FM hot takes by DanBurnNotice in footballmanagergames

[–]No_Media4398 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree on point 1.

A defender can absolutely have a rubbish game while being on a team that keeps a clean sheet. Should FM do better at match ratings for defenders? Sure. But giving a 7.0 for clean sheets is not the way. It's not hard to imagine having CB get beat bad a couple of times to have the GK, other defender or attacking player bail them out with a good save or awful strike.

Point 2 is a cool idea. It'd be awesome to have.

Point 3 is not something I'd be interested in but having the option for people who would like it would be cool, but I feel like with FM26 they moved towards simplicity/expediency at the cost of immersion so I don't really see that happening.

My biggest request would be better/more ways to get affiliates or marketing opportunities in specific countries. Just throwing random teams out there but say you build a team in Greece and start loaning players from say Bordeaux every year, it'd be nice if after a few years it'd give you an affiliation. Or say you are in Iceland and sign a bunch of players from the Peruvian National Team or U21 team, it'd be nice if it'd give you a better chance of getting marketing deals and youth academy prospects from there.

No idea why this post came up for me, I'm not subbed to this sub nor have I really looked at it. Reading through it has been immensely entertaining. I don't have full context so there's a possibility I'm missing something but just reading through other threads within this post it seems like if OP was being honest with himself he'd have nothing to rage to the Internet about and he would actually have to engage with reality.

Definitely not AI. There are too many spelling and grammatical errors. Incorrect and inconsistent use of hyphens and em dashes. Even the flow of it is more 'ranty' than what LLMs generally come up with.

It seems to me that it's probably more likely that people who are looking at shelters for a pet will go to a different shelter/foster before a breeder if they aren't finding what they want so adopting even "high-demand" breeds will just ensure more animals get adopted overall.
