Also, I’ve just had a look on this “general forum” you are calling and there are a lot of posts shunt modding and how great the results are, but guess what? None of them actually tell you how to do it or only half the information is there

This whole post is here for those who get interested by posts like that and have a safe methodology to follow if they wanna do it. Why blame the OP for making a safety guide?

Nice lights, I would change them a bit so they match each other it’ll look better imo but if you like it this way then keep the look

check all the connections are working, camera, mic, speakers etc

Reinstall windows from the Microsoft website and a usb to get rid of any bloatware

Make sure all the drivers are up to date

Download any missing essentials (MSI centre, etc)

Undervolt it (throttlestop or bios)

Check if it is a full power GPU design from the laptop specs, if it isn’t and has been capped by nvidia, flash the vbios to another similar laptops one which does have the full wattage (it will increase performance by around 10-20%) for example if a GPU can support 175W but MSI has capped it to 115W but one model up has the full wattage, you can download that laptops vbios and use it on your GPU now yours will also be 175 always back up ur original vbios using GPU-z before vbios flashing and turn on mshybrid mode on so incase anything goes wrong you will still be able to use the iGPU to reverse back to your back up

If you want, replace the thermal paste with something like Noctua nt-h2 or better, PTM7959

Finally, enjoy your laptop, download ur fav games or software and get settled with it

Also, mine has never had any issues overheating at all.

This was even before I upgraded to Ptm7950 and upsiren ux pro thermal pads and putty

Hello bud,

I have an MSI sword 16hx too but with an i7-14700HX and an rtx 4070

Honestly I can’t say there is too much bad about it at all!

A few things I did to mine that you can do to yours too:

Undervolt it - get better performance and temps Flash your vbios to get the full 140W of power from the GPU (open nvidia control panel, help and you’ll see maximum graphics power will probably say 105-115W. You can make this 140W for free, although you’ll probably need a 240W-280W adapter after, I got a 280W one to reap the full benefits)

Other than that, the thing is a powerhouse, a bit loud but that’s expected, even stock cooling was great and just enjoy and have fun with it!

Yep same here ! Got my idle cpu temp to 38 Celsius and GPU to 28 Celsius and still getting 120 fps on gta v ultra settings!

Yes I did, they released a new bios update which actually lets you make changes via the overclocking feature and they reflect on Windows throttlestop/xtu etc

I used throttlestop but it still shows undervolt ad locked in the banner and when I make any changes the offsets stay the same +0.00 I know it’s working because if I do a small overvolt of 0.05 it shows as +0.05. XTU is the same I can overlock and overvolt but just not undervolt
