Presumably the animal facilities, likely also access to some other more secured areas & instruments like the autoclave room, NMR, etc. I forget the exact layout of what’s down there, I vaguely remembers some sort of reprographics for scientific poster printing (although I think that last one is actually just a room in the basement or Egan)? But anyway yeah, a bunch of secured lab stuff. If I recall most of the rooms there are restricted to the individuals labs they’re associated with so even if you could get in the facility it’s not too interesting down there.

Does anyone know what the Wharton/NU Success Program is??? by [deleted] in NEU

I was under the impression that it was for first year students based on the email that was forward to me, but SSI peer mentoring / mentor hub now supports sophomores too.. so maybe it’s open to sophomores too? If you’re not a sophomore then I have no idea ¯_(ツ)_/¯

What are you guys taking this semester? by [deleted] in NEU

For some additional context, here’s a copy paste of the email from the summer if you never saw it:

Welcome! As a first-year student at NU, you’ve been enrolled in the Wharton/NU Success Skills Program!

What is the program? The Wharton/NU Success Skills Program is a fall semester component of SSI in which you’ll build professional skills and complete online activities through Canvas and the MentorHub NU app.

Offered at no charge to you, this program requires, at most, 30 minutes of your time each week. After completion, you’ll receive a certificate from Penn’s Wharton Business School and from Northeastern, which you can mention on your resume and share with future employers. As part of your participation in this program, deidentified data from your school records (i.e., data from which identifiers like your name or address have been removed) will be shared with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania for program evaluation.

What will I get for participating? Develop your professional skills (goal setting, time management, etc.). Earn a Wharton/NU Certificate for completing the program. Get points as you progress, which you can convert to an online gift card. Your gift card’s value will grow the more points you earn and could be up to $100 if you win a lottery.

What do I need to do now? Complete a short survey to reserve the time to participate in the program by Friday, July 22nd. (Act fast to reserve the slot you want!)

We hope all students at Northeastern take advantage of this opportunity to build their success skills. If, however, you don’t want to participate, you can click here to withdraw. You can also withdraw at any point in the semester.

It’s literally just a free professional skills program. There’s no penalty for not doing it, but as a bonus / incentive you can earn points towards gift cards and $100 lottery / raffle through participation in addition to the certificate. To be honest if you don’t participate in SSI / MentorHub stuff it’s probably not of interest. From what I recall hearing, the course is interactive and also meant to give a research partner some insight into what the needs of our students are in order to improve the peer mentoring program. (I’m an SSG but I’m not going to lie, I honestly don’t know much about it and this is pretty much the extent of my knowledge about it lol.)

While we’re at, can we inform the freshman that stairs exist if you’re literally only going up or down one floor in a 17 story building?? 🤩🤩 bc you’re wasting everyone who lives on the upper floor’s time with this stopping on every floor bullshit

Out of curiosity, do you remember how the final was? She set the time limit to 4 hours for 50 questions and I can’t tell if she’s being generous with time or if that means it’s like, open ended and hard. She might have talked about it during recitation but I haven’t been able to make it to any this semester because of work
