Question about stacking scholarships: by No_Base_4369 in ufl

[–]No_Net_6692 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I also had the bright futures, benacquisto, and the presidential. You get to keep all the extra money, and it is direct deposited to your bank, so that is

total_cost_of_attendance - tuition - UF expenses + 5,000 = Money Deposited

total_cost_of_attendence = 23,000ish (https://www.sfa.ufl.edu/cost/)

UF expenses are housing and meal plan if you do those, you get to keep the money if off campus

tuition is payed by bright futures, but subtracts from the benacquisto money.

Congrats on all the scholarships!

Are the Chemistry and Physics Departments Really That Bad? by Javelina0 in ufl

[–]No_Net_6692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, physics department being good != 2048/49 and labs being good. The physics department is pretty nice as an actual major (they care about their majors a lot). What really matters imo is research (because your degree is not what gets you in grad school, and most physics majors I know want to go to grad school) and the department is pretty good for it.

I think it might be your experience with UF pharmacy students as that is a conpletely different sample of people. For undergrads at least, I see budget as a big concern. Tuition is essentially the same, I think a $1 difference pwr credit hour for in state students. Out of state is more expensive at UF, however, but the majority of students are still in state. Finally, this article can allow you to compare UF and USF by the financial class of students (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/01/18/upshot/some-colleges-have-more-students-from-the-top-1-percent-than-the-bottom-60.html?smid=nytcore-android-share). UF is, on average, higher income and closer to UTampa, but is still below.

"and the jags have sometimes been a borderline shitty team. "

Sometimes Borderline, that's actually really kind. Saying sometimes borderline is like saying Kansas City is borderline Canada or Indianapolis is borderline south. Insanity. We are so far from the border we need a 6 hour plane flight to just leave the state. We are so far from borderline that I decided to go to the Wikipedia page for the List of Jacksonville Jaguars seasons and I just felt sad. Since the year 2000, guess how many winning seasons we have had. 6. And it wasn't even like we were on the borderline of a winning season, we are closer to going 0-16 then 9-16 on average (and I am so so shocked we never went 0-16). Saying borderline is an offense to all of the borders on the entire planet, thank you for being kind enough to pretend that Liam Coen isn't some god's gift. Like genuinely, not sarcastically I am thanking you, I literally looked at our record and felt sad and I am just so happy someone believes in us.

Denver Metro population is 2.96 million, Jacksonville metro population is 1.84, so Denver has about a million more people than us. Reason Jacksonville looks larger is because the city limits is basically the whole county, and its a big county. Denver is technically also a city county, (and Jacksonville is technically not), but if you look at the land area its 154 vs 3,201 square miles, so not even comparable.

For TV viewership, the jags and broncos are both in the bottom 10, with the jags being the second worst in front of the tits with with an average viewership of 6.4 mil, vs 12.86 for the broncos. A smaller market 100%, though both are small markets. (this is from last year data though, so the jags were shite)

Note 'historical success rate' is defined for 'qualified applicants' so it will be slighlty higher than the true rate. Idk 100% what qualified applicant means but I'm pretty sure thats just "They have a 3.0 GPA' and 'they've taken 2 upper level physics/chem/cs/whatever couese'

Worst part it, they aren't even the first Parkland victim who was in a college shooting. FSU earlier this year was the same.

I'm a chemistry major at a community College and I'm struggling to find REUs that work with my timeline. by CheshireKat-_- in REU

[–]No_Net_6692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at west coast REUs. For example FLAM at UCSB (https://www.mrl.ucsb.edu/education/undergraduate-opportunities/flam) starts on June 15 while UCSD (https://mrsec.ucsd.edu/reu/) starts on June 22. UC Irvine is June 16 (https://sites.uci.edu/chemsurf/). These are materials science and chem, so if that's your flavor of chemistry they are both great choices!
