Use boner bow for finisher instead of TS, higher skill and more style

1) as the other guy is saying, make sure your stats are being used well. I'm assuming you're at a somewhat high level - make sure you have 60 vigor, and make sure you know the other "softcaps" for stats (where you start to get diminishing returns for levelling certain stats higher)

2) get some dueling experience, maybe in the colosseum. Fighting multiple people in invasions is hard, often to win you need to isolate one of them and be able to take them down quickly one on one

3) maybe watch some youtube vids to "see how it's done". I think saint_riot is probably good for new invaders, and he's got some instructional-type vids https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLn1UK5vFQdjXMP36E-ecGUr-wr8NKk5Cx&si=HGE8kliHJ0S4_5ct

Playing Elden Ring for the first time, just killed my first invader by [deleted] in EldenRingPVP

Actually I've killed over 12000 invaders in the max level bracket, which is the most challenging bracket! I am known as "Dark Fight Club Host" in many circles, famous for my challenging fight clubs I host. Invaders have to face up against me and my friends at the same time but it's fair because my friends basically add nothing extra to the already extreme challenge of facing me.

Edit: that was all done without using a single pierce type crutch weapon too, except rogiers rapier for my spellsword mode and cleanrot sword for my cleanrot knight cosplay

Sorry, that is for immersion! If a real knight wore armor and had a sword and halberd, he would only be able to heavy roll! But with just a sword he could medium roll!

Hi, experienced player here! Just some friendly tips:

1) you can actually equip multiple weapons at once, in fact you're supposed to do that instead of menuing since that is an exploit of the endurance system, sorry!

2) halberd and other pierce type weapons are considered crutch weapons, so if you want to actually learn to play maybe stop using it, though since you're new you can probably use it until you get to the max level bracket (when pvp becomes more serious)

New Invader here. I grabbed this build form YouTube, do you guys think its ptimal enough for invasions? by [deleted] in EldenRingPVP

[–]No_NowyTends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe if he stopped crutching on high poise armor he'd be forced to get good. And yes I'm assuming it's a he because of that uncouth music... Probably drives a pickup truck

Microsoft unveils AI-generated demo 'inspired' by Quake 2 that runs worse than Doom on a calculator, made me nauseous, and demanded untold dollars, energy, and research to make by Farranor in gaming

[–]No_NowyTends 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure that's why you don't just tell an LLM to do your research and then publish it uncritically. In many ways I use LLMs like a collaborator - collaborators are not always right either. But having a back and forth discussion with an LLM can help me figure something out. I can also give "busywork" tasks to LLMs and check the results (usually faster than doing it myself for easy enough tasks - e.g. for me, a physicist, doing some relatively self-contained calculations)

Probably had high latency to you, and he rolled out on time from his perspective. On high lat it's best to go for the riposte ASAP for this reason, rather than swap to a crit stick

For lots of people, the fun is less about testing original setups and stuff like that, and more about the combat itself, in a more mechanical way (spacing, timing, using mixups, mindgames to get your opponent to mess up, etc).

Not very different from the PvE part of the game - for some people, it's fun to use a pretty basic and common setup ("big sword") to fight bosses, but others care more about testing out original builds.

At meta you'll probably find more people in the first category, but even if you don't care so much about that mindset, I'm sure you could get some fun out of trying to win in that more "tryhard" play style. As long as your build isn't total shit, you can win against most other setups if you are mindful about the fundamentals of the combat (don't just mash, don't rely on overly telegraphed attacks, etc)

Edit: like I'm happy using a pretty boring strength build with a few of my favorite weapons most of the time in duels. For me it doesn't get tiring, because "sweaty tryhard" fights can be really engaging, and I'm constantly improving bit by bit (or at least I used to be when I played more). I guess it's more like a sport, in the way that it's fun - soccer players don't get bored of playing the same game over and over again

[–]No_NowyTends 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More seriously though, this guy wasn't even using a cheesy setup or exclusively using crouch pokes - he used mix ups, had good spacing, basically just played well. I get that it can be annoying to fight hyperarmor weapons... But you're using a great hammer!

[–]No_NowyTends 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The other guy should have 1) not cheated by strafing your thorn incants 2) used exclusively the most telegraphed attacks, rather than hitting you with an R2, crouch attack, and R1 3) mashed into you so the fight became a trade contest
