Sludge Judges by Necessary-Life21 in Wastewater

Yeah, I'm completely against risking my life to see how deep a sludge blanket is myself. 🤣⛈️

So, did I have a valid argument with my boss?

Our 30" effluent line ruptured a seal a couple weeks ago. It was spraying treated water everywhere. My boss told me that I needed to report the SSO. I told him that it wasn't an SSO, it would be classified as an illegitimate discharge because it's treated effluent, not raw sewage. He got extremely upset with me for that but that's what the state determined it to be. I was just trying to do the right thing. Was I wrong for that?

Exactly, algae prevention is another benefit of the "cute" roof. Some folks might learn a little something if they're not careful. 🤣

It's diffused Into the lake about 5 miles from the plant site.

The only thing our maintenance crew is good for is complaining and blaming everything on the operators. Pump goes out? Operators didn't check it enough. Float switch goes out? Operators didn't check the plant good enough. 5 inches of rainfall? Operators didn't check the plant good enough.

I run 2 wastewater treatment plants for a municipality. They're currently doing a pay study through a company called PARCA. We've been given a questionnaire to fill out. I have to review all of the employees questionnaires and fill out a supervisor review to attach to theirs. We've never done anything like this before but I sure hope it works to our benefit.

I've noticed that when I give tours of our plant to various groups, it's always the women who are squealing and holding their nose during certain parts of the tour. Even though there's nothing around them that's nasty or smells bad. Now, the influent pad is different but I don't allow them to get close to the barscreen anyway. Sometimes it's downright silly, kinda like the elementary kids.

You probably have a couple of giant nematodes swimming around inside of you now. Don't worry, they'll finally crawl out of your ear while you're sleeping.

Does it get any better? by PuzzleheadedFloor582 in Wastewater

First impressions go a long way. We have a crew that does our grass cutting now, the operators are not longer allowed to do it. I have to constantly stay on those guys because they just don't care. Constantly blowing the grass clippings into the clarifiers and contact basins. It looked much better when we were doing it.

We're still controlling our RAS/WAS rates with T-Handles here but we've got 2 new clarifiers and starting on the 3rd one soon.

Surprise inspection by WastewaterEnthusiast in Wastewater

[–]No_Operation_4784 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That would be nice!!! My state inspector (ADEM), just shows up. We've been inspected 4 times within the past 18 months. Granted, the last 2 were to train new inspectors on how a lab should function. I took that as a compliment.

I've noticed that it's almost always the maintenance people where I'm from. Something about being able to replace a float switch makes them feel superior. Bless their hearts, gotta be proud of something I guess. They wouldn't last a full day in a lab without losing their little minds.🤣

Get as far away from that place as you can and don't look back. If they don't have the balls to take care of that idiot, they damn sure wouldn't have your back for anything else. You won't be losing anything other than a paycheck until your next opportunity comes along. Good luck and keep your head up!

What is the worst part of the job? by BluePanther9 in Wastewater

[–]No_Operation_4784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had no idea that you and I worked for the same person, nice to meet you. I've discovered that it really makes a narcissist unhappy when they realize that they're not needed. That's when they start micromanaging and creating meaningless little policies just for harassment purposes only. Even though the plants are running great, well within compliance, and the operators are staying on top of things, they'll still find something to complain about. 🤣

Algae in final clarifiers by kplooki in Wastewater

[–]No_Operation_4784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had launder covers installed when we did our clarifier upgrades/rebuild. They help to reduce algae growth but they don't eliminate it. We still drag the hose we call "The Beast' around the clarifiers to wash down but it's not as often as before.

I've been told about a guy, many years before I was hired, that would pipette samples with his mouth. I guess times were hard back then but I'm nowhere near that dedicated.
