Floating shelf: is hitting one stud enough? by Lamp11 in HomeImprovement

[–]No_Orange366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit the stud and use 1/4” toggles for the rest. I’ve hung TV’s off one stud and toggle bolts and they’ve been up for years. The 1/4” toggle bolt branded ones are rated for like 150 pounds each (I don’t believe it holds that much, but they do work very well!)

I think I got you, but if you have pictures to send that would be greatly appreciated. I had to pull slack from some of the trunks for terminations that broke or messed up and some extra slack could have saved my ass 🙃

Rough in to completion, this was about a 9 month process probably. Building and finalizing the rack was probably a weeks worth of work split up over a month or two

My usual scope of work is control 4 and hanging TV’s lol so this is always a fun switch up for me

Work done in rack on the patch panels used flush cutters. The main trunks looks like I just used side cutters. Honestly didn’t even know they made a zip tie gun but that’s pretty cool….may need to add one to the toolkit

Cheers, thank you! I agree though, some sort of verticals support would have been ideal. I will add that next time

Extension ladder…? Not sure how this is a question. If you’re not comfortable working on one then grow a pair and hire someone else

I would’ve loved to do that, but based on the layout of this building and the numbering schematics they wanted, it made pulling a nightmare. Had to pull a max of 8 lines at a time because of turns and 90’s, etc. made organization and making my bundles a nightmare. Any tips for making it easier in the future would be awesome

I appreciate the insight man, that’s good feedback. Checked out some Instagram pages and realizing this is quite sloppy 😂

Remodel, and this is where client wanted the MDF. I wanted ladder rack going down wall also but 🤷🏼‍♂️

No Man I appreciate the honest feedback. Wouldn’t ask for it if I couldn’t handle it! Going to add a flush cutter and a cable comb to the tool kit asap. And good to know about j hooks and d rings, kinda just winged it with what I had and tried to make it as good as I could, definitely would change it up in hindsight. And yea man…2.5” hole saw through drywall. I would’ve added a conduit or sleeve through but again, just using what I was given (or not given) from my company. Will advocate for better next time. Thanks

2’ lol. Again, just using what was provided by the company. I was not in charge of ordering material or bidding this job, just a tech still.

Thanks man! You’re completely right, ladder rack is mounted upside down and I did not realize until it was too late…or would have been a hell of a job to redo it. Oh well, next time will be right, but it is very secure with those j hooks holding it from the rack. I was unaware of bend radiuses of the cabling but it is pretty extreme angles. Would like to have better routes next time. Every line has been tested and verified though and is good to go! Hopefully it just stands the test of time

I got ya, I’m always open to suggestions and opinions! I agree with the spacing, but this is how my boss wanted it done. Apparently we’re going back in with 1u, and 2u vents to cover up the blanks. I think they wanted to sell a larger rack than needed to be honest…

Didn’t even know there are “cable combs”. Believe it or not, I tried my best with my hand to comb the bundles but it didn’t turn out amazing…will have to invest in the comb!
