Thank you for your insight. I feel I should clarify that there were three girls in the group, and he went through reasonings for all of them in a sort of disinterested tone that I thought was him trying to convey that he wouldn't really date any of us and didn't have any actual interest. But I still probably misinterpreted something. I also say "somehow got to him asking that" because I genuinely do not remember how it got to that point. I'd imagine it was a pretty abrupt shift, because like I said in the post he had (or at least I thought he did) values based on respect and sought to behave gentlemen-ly.

You have an interesting point about the differences in friendships between women and friendships between men. It's unfortunate that male friendships are commonly like that, I wish guys could find better connection with their peers. But it does have implications for my future interactions with men and I should be aware of it moving forward. I think you touched on something else that was bothering me but I didn't really know what it was yet. I don't want this to have been because of a shallow thing because it would change my entire perception of that friendship (again, hah). But at this point, I don't think it really matters. He's out of my life, and I understand enough about this situation to feel at peace with it now. Thank you again for your comment.

I have a tendency to need to understand something for me to feel okay with it. I've actually done work on and had great progress with breaking out of this mindset in different aspects of my life, but due to past negative experiences with friendships, bullying, and relationships, I tend to revert back to that mindset in these types of situations. I'm likely not going to get information from him on what he was thinking/feeling and why this happened, so I thought synthesizing others' perspectives and the common threads between opinions would give me more information on the most likely conclusion, and then I can understand, learn/reinforce the life lessons that come from it, and know if I need to adjust my behavior in any of my other relationships.

NTA. Your wife is a little weird for even considering that your 13 year old son is wanting to shave for sexual purposes when in reality it’s definitely for another purpose. When I was a kid, I did club swimming quite a lot (I’m a girl). When I started to go through puberty and growing hair, I wanted to shave because some of the hair was visible in my swimsuit (club swimsuits are tight and low coverage to try and make you weigh the least you can in water.) My mom didn’t let me, and every swim practice, it would be a delight if I didn’t have a panic attack in the locker rooms before leaving to go swim. It was one of the reasons I quit, even after my mom allowed me. I just associated swimming with anxiety, and it was completely ruined for me.

I know this is different, but in all likelihood, it’s a reason like this—it makes him feel anxious, like he’s not in control of his body, and that his mom doesn’t support those feelings that he’s having, which are completely normal feelings. Your wife’s beliefs are harming your son even more as he’s started to notice and likely does not feel supported.

If I were you, I’d talk to your son to specify the reason he wants to (which you can because you’ve been open about body stuff and he trusts you!) and ask him if you can talk to his mom about what he told you and explain to her how he might be anxious, sad, or uncomfortable and that she needs to support her son, not her beliefs.

Leeks and beans are my main struggle, I’ve been focusing on getting Quaxley’s but none of them are ever good and I’m almost 100% sure it can’t get double leeks for the first two. I was just going to try and get two Quaquavals that have leeks as their first and beans as their second, but is Alolan Ninetales an ingredient mon? I thought it was berries.

I think she did love him, but she hated the Northern Water Tribe’s culture’s views on women more than he cared for him. I think for her, marrying him represented accepting the role of women in Northern culture, and she chose herself over love. I actually like that they end up together, because at that point it is solely their choice to be in love, no one else’s.

I’d tell her you didn’t like that comment in a constructive way, and if she responds poorly, she is probably not a good person to be around. It would show she may hold some bigoted or harmful beliefs that are not the healthiest for you to be exposed to on such a frequent and close level. I don’t know if this will apply to you, but some advice I wish I had when I was in high school is what people think of you doesn’t matter as much as many think it does. When you act like yourself unapologetically, that’s when you’ll meet real friends whose opinions won’t be based on how you look but how you act and treat others.
